Chapter twenty eight

Red. It stained everything in sight. The thick, red, blood of fallen wolves tainted the grass and left a stench of death in the air. I looked around and stared at the massacre that stretched out in front of me.

I closed my eyes and listened to the silence. It enveloped me and filled me up with a sense of calm. A few stray tears slipped out of the corners of me eyes and a wistful smile crept onto my face. It was over.

I opened up my eyes to the see Marcus standing only in his loose fitting shorts showing of his very impressive set of abs. He pulled a dusty grey shirt over his head and walked over to me. Within seconds I was pulled into a hug and I felt my self relax into his chest, enjoying his intoxicating scent.

I smiled weakly up at him when he pulled away

"Hi," he whispered.

"Hi," I croaked back.

Suddenly I felt my eyes mist over when I looked over at my mum. I ran up to her and flung my arms around her neck.

"I'm sorry," I cried, "I didn't mean it, and then when I got back I.."

"Honey it's ok. You were right to be angry. I shouldn't have kept things from you," she soothed as she stroked my hair.

I closed my eyes and listened to the rhythm of her heart. Suddenly a shooting pain gripped my heart and I staggered backwards. It felt like someone was squeezing inside my chest and I left gasping for breath. The trees and the people spun around in a colourful blur before I fell back into the arms of the person behind me.
