Chapter seventeen

I woke up feeling refreshed but my heart became heavy again when I remembered the events of yesterday. The birds serenaded each other with sweet songs from the weeping willow trees outside my window.

I pulled myself up, stretched out my aching joints and walked downstairs. When I reached the bottom I was greeted by Marcus' mum, Carmen.

"Hi honey! How are you feeling?" she called to me from the kitchen. From the smell of it she was making pancakes.

"I'm alright thanks. Still a bit shaken up." I replied

"Don't worry dear the boys will sort it out," she said a she placed a plate of pancakes in front of me.

"Thanks," I said as I started to eat.

Just as I was about to take my first bite a pair of strong hands covered my eyes. I smiled as my wolf relaxed, knowing that it was our mate.

"Guess who?" he whispered in my ear. A shiver passed through me and I stood up and turned around.

I lifted his hands off my eyes and kissed him quickly on the lips.

"Good morning," he said as he embraced me in a warm hug.

I smiled up at him, forgetting about my troubles for a split second. But as I snapped out of my moment of happiness my brow creased into a frown and I stepped out of his arms.

"What's going to happen to my mum?" I asked

He led me towards the couch and sat me next to him while taking my hand in his.

"We'll be having a pack meeting soon to talk about the plan for the next couple of weeks," he reassured, giving my hand a gentle squeeze "No harm will come to her, I promise."

I relaxed a little knowing that my mate would do everything he could to protect me and my mum. Just as I was about to say reply to him my phone rang, cutting me off short.

I pulled it out of my pocket and saw that the caller was Sam.

"Hey Sam," I said as I got off the couch and headed back up to my room.

"Avalon!! Where the devil are you?? I came to your house this morning and you weren't there. I was about to call the police!" She gushed.

My eyes widened and I opened and shut my mouth, at a loss of words. In the flurry of the recent events I had forgotten I had asked her to come over in the morning. I was such a terrible friend. The story of the night poured out of my mouth before I knew I had begun to speak and as I explained the whole story to her I felt a little better. It was like a weight had been lifted off my chest.

I heard a light knock on my door and I spun around to see Marcus leaning against the doorframe.

"Hold on a sec," I said to Sam as I put my hand on the speaker and turned my attention to Marcus.

"My dad wants to speak with you," he said....(something else here?)

"Just a minute," I replied as I picked up the phone.

"Sorry Sam but I have to go," I apologized to her, "I'm so sorry about about this morning."

"No harm done," she reassured, "I would have forgotten as well in that situation."

"Thanks, I'll see you later," I said before I hung up the phone. I got up off my bed and walked over to Marcus. He snaked his arm around my waist.

"Let's go," he said before we walked out of my room and made for the stairs.
