Chapter twenty one

"What do you mean Cindy's gone," Alpha Michael seethed through gritted teeth.

Simon cowered back in fear as the alpha's wolf began to surface. Power rolled off him in waves directed straight towards Simon.

"I w-went home and she wasn't there so I phone her mobile and it said the number had been disconnected," Simon stuttered.

"What!?!" Michael boomed in his alpha voice.

We all tilted our heads in submission but Simon's head was bowed the lowest.

"I'm sorry alpha," he whimpered.

"You're dismissed, I need to talk to a my son and his mate." Alpha Michael snapped

"Of course alpha," Simon said bowing his head as he opened the door and stepped outside.

The door slammed shut and we stood in silence before Michael spoke up.

"Let's go to my office," he said as he began to walk down the hallway.

Marcus and I looked at each other with concern before we followed after him.

We sat down on the soft armchairs and Alpha Michael stared me straight in the eyes.

"Avalon, I need you to see if you can track Cindy. We need to figure out where Cindy is and if you are indeed a soul splitter, you should be able to find her," He explained, "Try to connect with your wolf, your power will come from within her.

I nodded, closing my eyes and centering myself. In tune with my wolf, I focused my energy on Cindy, visualizing her in my mind.

I gasped in shock and felt my eyes widen when I felt my soul leave me. My soul drifted upwards and I stared in disbelief at the sight before me. I was looking down at the three of us sitting together. Suddenly, the objects around me merged into into a blur of whizzing colour and I was transported to a different place. I found myself in the middle of the forest on the edge of a grassy plain.

There were two men who I didn't recognize standing there looking like they were waiting for someone. Suddenly I heard a twig snap behind me and I spun around. I saw Cindy walking towards me. My eyes darted around, frantically searching for a place to hide. Suddenly I felt a strange tingling feeling envelop my body and I turned around to see Cindy behind me walking towards the clearing.

I breathed a sign of relief when I realized that she can't see me, and the strange sensation must have just been Cindy passing through my body. I took a few steps forward passing through a few trees so I could have a better view.

"I have all the information you need Alpha," she said addressing a man around my age with a thick shock of black hair and pale skin.

"Go on," he coaxed.

"They plan on attacking if we make another move," she explained.

"Not if we attack first," the other boy next to the alpha said as he smiled wickedly. He had fiery red hair and I assumed he was the beta.

"That's correct Quinn, we have the element of surprise and they still don't know who we are," the alpha said.

Cindy nodded in agreement before she spoke up again.

"And I will get my reward for my services?" she said staring at the alpha expectantly.

"Of course," he replied, "All in good time, your lover will die on the day we attack."

My heart dropped like a stone the moment he uttered those words. Marcus was in danger, and alarm bells had started to ring in my brain. The alpha and beta turned around and Cindy followed them into forest. I turned around, my head still spinning from all of the information I had received. Suddenly it felt as though all the energy had been drained from my body and I began to feel dizzy. My eyes fluttered shut and fragmented pictures flashed on my eyelids.

My eyes shot open as I felt my soul return to my body. I was met by the concerned faces of Marcus and Alpha Michael.

"Oh goddess, Avalon, you're finally awake! I thought that you had gone into a coma!" Marcus said as he put his hand on my shoulder, "You were just sitting there with your eyes closed for an hour."

"How are you feeling Avalon?"

I stared at them wide eyed before I finally found my voice and spoke up.

"My soul, it left me. I was there, listening." I forced out.

They stared at me for a few seconds before Marcus pulled onto his lap and kissed my forehead. I relaxed into his chest and then Michael spoke up.

"Then our suspicions were correct, the voices were really just a lead up to your true power," he said, "You are a soul splitter."

Tears welled up in my eyes and before I knew it all of the information I had gathered came gushing out. I explained about how they were going to attack but I didn't know when and I even managed to choke out the part about how they were going to kill Marcus.

"There were two people there talking to Cindy. The one who I think was the alpha had black hair and pale skin and the other guy had red hair." I gushed

I felt Marcus stiffen and when i turned around to look at him I saw that his expression had hardened and his eyes had narrowed into slits.

I looked back over at Alpha Michael and saw him shake his head before he placed it in his hands in despair. I looked between them before Marcus venomous voice cut through the silence.

"Hunter."

Marcus' POV

I fell back onto the couch and placed my head in my hands. A few seconds later I heard someone sit down next to me. A small hand reached over and rested on my arm.

I looked up and was met with the concerned face of Avalon.

"Please tell me who Hunter is and what that means," she pleaded,

"you know I can't stand people keeping secrets from me."

I sighed but soon nodded in agreement. It was only fair that she knew.

"Hunter and I used to be friends, back in high school. But he was always wanting more. He wanted dominance over our group of friends and he wouldn't take no for an answer."

I paused for a second before continuing on.

"Before long it got out of control and it started to get serious. He tried to bring me into bad stuff in order to get more money. Eventually after he asked me to steal something really valuable for him I told him I didn't want to and he abandoned me."

I narrowed my eyes and continued on through gritted teeth. Even the memory of Hunter twisted a knife deeper into my heart.

"I knew that this crazy obsession would never stop and I hadn't heard of him or what he was doing, until now."

"I should have stopped him while I could," I sighed, shaking my head.

"Marcus it's not your fault, don't blame yourself," she said as she grabbed my hand and gave it a squeeze.

Her eyes held such sincerity and honesty that I felt a tiny weight drop of my shoulders.

"Thanks Ava I can always count on you to get me through," I said as I kissed her on the cheek.

I cupped her hands inside mine and stroke her silky chestnut hair out of her pale face.

"I swear on my life that I will protect you," I said as I pulled her against me.

She looked up at me and I felt myself get lost into her warm chocolate eyes. I squeezed her tighter wishing this moment would never end.

"They want a fight?" I said determinedly.

"Bring. It. On"
