Chapter Eleven

Marcus:

I felt rage boil over inside me as I saw that slimy jerk place his hand on my mate. My wolf was not happy and neither was I. There was something extremely shifty about that man.

"Mine!" I snapped as my wolf began to take dominance over me. I fought back for control and as I looked upwards I was met with the very shocked faces of Ava's mum and my dad.

"Is there something you would like to tell us son?" My dad said a little too knowingly.

I sighed but eventually decided to tell them, I would have had too anyway.

"Ava is my mate." I said.

They gave each other an indiscreet glance that said 'I knew it all along.' It was true that I had been a little too happy after I kissed Lucy in the woods that night. My dad must have suspected something and Lucy must have told her Mum.

"But there's something that I don't like about Kyle. He's only just joined the pack and I don't know him well enough," I added with a frown.

"He's fine Marcus. Plus he's the only other gifted we have in our pack." He replied as he sat back and took a sip of his tea.

I suppose I was just going to have to trust him, for now.

Avalon:

"The first thing you need to know about having a gift is that you have to be focused to be able to control it," Kyle drawled in his velvety voice. "I was told that you are hearing voices inside your head, am I correct?

"Yes, I can hear voices but only random phrases that don't make any sense. It's almost like I can hear fragmented pieces of people's conversations," I frowned trying to work out my mystery power myself, "But it just... it doesn't make any sense."

"That's alright Ava," he replied, his mouth curving up into a seemingly harmless but admittedly unnerving smile, "That's what we're here to find out."

I gulped but nodded in response, not sure what to make of the ominous aura that seemed to lurk around Kyle.

"One other important thing to know is that your gift is from your wolf. Since we don't know exactly what your true ability is I want you to try and channel the power from your inner wolf so we can unlock your true potential," he said, each word like silky slugs crawling down my throat.

I nodded before he suddenly got up and started pacing around the room.

"Now I want you to try and get in touch with your inner wolf," he said in a hypnotic voice, "Close your eyes and centre yourself."

I slowly shut my eyes and slowed my breathing, allowing myself to slip into my subconscious. Casting away my jumbled thoughts I cleared my mind and focused on my wolf. I felt my wolf emerge and I began to connect with her. All of a sudden a feeling of unease and panic hit me like a ton of bricks as I felt my wolf howl within me.

My eyes snapped open and I found myself nose to nose with a Kyle. A wicked smile was plastered on his face. I pushed him away from me with all the strength I could, leapt off the couch and made to get away.

I had barely gotten a few steps away when he grabbed my arm and pulled me back to him. Panic rose in my chest as I struggled to get away from him. He roughly smashed his lips into mine and slammed me up against the wall. I clamped my mouth shut and squeezed my eyes shut silently begging for Marcus to save me.

Marcus:

I waited nervously in the lounge for Ava to come back up the steps. Suddenly I felt fear swell in my chest and instantly knew that she was in trouble. I jumped up, much to the surprise of my dad and Jill, and bolted down the stairs to save my troubled mate. I flung the door open only to see that scum bag Kyle with his lips on my mates.

Rage boiled inside me and I let my wolf take dominance over me. I ran over and punched Kyle on the side of his face. He stumbled backwards revealing my mate who was beyond petrified.

That just made my wolf even more pissed. I strode over to him and punched in the temple knocking him out cold. I wiped my lip before turning back to Ava. I sprinted over to her and embraced her in a head. She began to cry into my shoulder and I felt my heart break. I looked over at Kyle who was lying unconscious on the ground. I would deal with him later.

"Shh, baby it's going to be okay, I'm here now," I said while stroking her silky hair.

I grabbed her hand and kissed her on her head quickly.

"Come on, let's go," I said leading her up the stairs. When we got to the top both parents stared at us for a while before Ava's mum ran over. Ava let go of my hand and gave her mum a hug still staying at my side.

Ava wiped her tears away before pulling away from her mum and slipping her small hand back into mine.

"Let me guess, our Kyle wasn't the person we expected him to be," My father asked me.

"He harassed Ava and I want him out of the pack," I replied adamantly while looking my father straight in the eye.

He nodded and came over to Ava. "I'm sorry you had to go through that Ava. It was entirely my fault, I shouldn't have trusted such a new member of the pack." My dad said with a sad look on his face.

"I'll be alright I just need to go home." Ava said with a small smile.

I led her to the door and let go of her hand. Giving her a quick hug I opened the door for her and her mum.

"I'll pick you up on Monday." I called after her.

She turned around and nodded before she turned back, got into her car and drove away.
