Chapter fifteen
I didn't even take my clothes off. I just shifted into my wolf and ran. That's all I wanted to do right now. I ran deeper and deeper into the forest. When I stopped in my usual spot I collapsed onto the grass. Staring at the grass beneath me I heaved labored breath through my heavy lungs. A strangled moan erupted from my chest before the tears began. Pained sobs racked my body and warm, salty tears slid continuously my face.
I heard a rustle in the bushes behind me and I turned around expecting to see Marcus. I was both shocked and disgusted when I was met with the face of Kyle with two unfamiliar faces appeared behind him.
"How lovely to see you here Avalon," Kyle said smoothly, lingering on my name for a little longer than I would have liked.
"Unfortunately the feeling can not be reciprocated, Kyle," I spat back at him. I wasn't in the mood for more of his games.
"Now my darling we can do this the easy way or the hard way," he said reaching his hand out.
"Get your hand out of my face," I seethed as I slapped his hand away and stood up. I wasn't going down with out a fight.
"The hard way it is," he said rubbing his hands together. His friends from before shifted into their wolves and walked towards me.
I quickly shifted into my wolf and let them come towards me. The first one charged at me and I braced myself. He launched himself into the air and I quickly moved out from under him. Snapping at his neck and I ended his life in a few short seconds.
The other wolf charged at me and we battled around for a while before I teared a chunk of his skin off and he ran off. That just left Kyle.
He shifted into a black wolf but didn't come at me. I ran toward him and he started to charge back. When we reached each other he started snapping at my neck but I was too quick for him and nimbly dodged out of the way.
Startled by my quick movement he stood there in shock and I took the opportunity and bit into his rump. He howled in pain as my razor sharp teeth sunk deeper into him.
He shifted into back into a human and I towered over him ignoring the fact that he was naked. I let out a low growl but to my surprise he just laughed.
"Kill me!" he shouted at me, "I don't care anymore."
Then his face contorted into a maniacal grin and he stared at me with bloodshot eyes.
"Besides, I've kept you distracted for long enough," he grinned before his head lolled to one side. The bite wound I had inflicted on him was spurting out blood and Kyle's face was visibly paling. It was at that moment that I forgot the everything around me and focused in on the deadly words that he had just uttered. Deciding to spare him, I ran back to the house knowing that he would probably die of blood loss anyway.
The chilling wind whipped through my fur and the dewy grass moulded into my feet as I bounded through the forest.
When I reached my house I was surprised to see that the lights were still on. Shifting back into my human form, I sprinted inside and into the bathroom, grabbing a towel to conceal my naked body. The house was still and eerily silent.
"Mum!" I shouted into the hallway.
"Where are you? I'm sorry for getting angry at you," I pled walking into the lounge, "I was mad and I just..acted on impulse."
I waited a few seconds but still no response. At this point, the silence seemed deafening. Panic settled inside me as I searched for my mother. Racing into the kitchen, I skidded to a grinding halt as I noticed a neatly folded note on the counter. My heart thudded like a beating drum as I unfolded the note and read its contents
"Dearest Avalon,
You may have already realized that your beloved mother is missing. If you ever want to see her alive again you will leave your mate and come and join my pack.
Kind regards
Kyle
My knees gave way beneath me and I fell in a crumpled heap on the floor. A lonely tear slid down my dirt caked cheek as I contemplated the last words I had said to my mum. I. Hate. You. If only I'd known that that was the last thing I would say to her before she would be ripped from me in a cruel trick of fate. White hot tears of rage blinded my vision now as I realized that Kyle had probably planned this all along. Lifting up my heavy head I hauled myself up and stumbled towards the stairs. Wiping the tears off my face I willed myself not to cry again, knowing that it would serve no use. When I got upstairs and into my room I mindlessly pulled on a sweater and track pants.
After I was dressed I raced back down the stairs and out the front door. I wasn't safe in my home anymore and there was only one place I knew that I could go in a time like this.
