Chapter twenty four
Marcus' POV
We all stood together in an uncomfortable silence as we eyed up the trees, wondering just what was lurking in the shadows. Unspoken words floated around in the air, for everyone was too afraid to say them. I turned around to face my pack and saw the anxiety in all of their eyes.
To be honest I was nervous as well but I was their leader so I couldn't show it. They should be any minute now and all we had to do was lie in wait. They had the advantage since Kyle could read the future.
All the fighter wolves were assembled behind me standing in wait. We were on a large plain a few hundred meters away from the pack house, right at the edge of the forest.
I looked to the left towards my dad, his beta and third in command.
He met my eyes and nodded.
"Men, we all know that we are here to fight for our land, our pack and for our future luna Lucy," I shouted out to the pack.
"Lives will be lost, lives will be taken and only one pack will come out on top."
Everyone stared intently at me and a few murmurs of agreement passed through the crowd.
"and no matter what happens, we will until the very end."
The crowd roared and I nodded to signal that they could shift.
The sound of clothes ripping filled the air as the pack shifted. I turned back around and looked towards my dad.
He nodded and all of us on the front line shifted into our wolves. My dads wolf was red and mine was grey.
Just as we all finished shifting I heard the thuds of heavy paw prints in the distance. They were coming.
I growled and stood my ground. The front line copied me and all of the pack followed in response.
The sound of leaves crunching caught my attention and my head snapped around to see who it was.
A large black wolf which I knew was hunter emerged from the forest followed by two other wolves who I assumed were Kyle and Hunter's beta.
Hunters mouth warped into a sickening grin and he looked either side of him.
A whole line of wolves came out of the forest.
He howled and in a flash he was bounding towards me with his pack following him. I howled in return and charged forward with the lack following closely behind. It's begun.
