Didnt see it coming || Liam O'donovan

Chapter fourteen

•Riley's POV
These past few days Ive been with Liam and frank non stop. Liam seems determined to not let me be by myself and to constantly keep my mind busy and for that I'll be forever grateful. Frank's turned out to be an amazing mate too. I haven't opened up to him about anything and he's not pushing me too and I'm forever grateful for that too. Liam and I practiced the song with Gus's keyboard added and it turned out AWESOME. We're so gonna nail the music round. And as for the archery,I spend an hour practicing each day and have even taught Liam a few of the basics. One things for sure tho,he's definitely a better player than Johnny. And to be honest,these past few days with Liam have been the best I've ever had. And I really don't know why but anytime he smiles at me,or we touch or sing,I feel my stomach going wild. I really don't know what this weird fluttery rush is. All I know is it makes me really nervous.

*Fast forward to the Day of the competition*
Liam,Gus and I have been practicing non stop for two weeks,I've upped my game on the archery,Gus has been studying non stop, Johnny and Toby have mastered how to jump in sacks,we're ready. We're leaving in 25 minutes and right now we're just sitting in the kitchen having breakfast. As soon as I finish my toast I go up to my room to give my guitar one last strum,wipe all my arrows,and bring them downstairs. I go back into the kitchen and sit down while everyone's still eating.
"Nervous?" Tracy asks me
"A little" I admit
"Don't be. I know you three will smash it. Cant wait to see which tune you guys picked." She says
Little does she know we actually took her advice and are singing a song.
25 minutes later and we're all in the van driving to where the competition is. Whole way there my headphones are in and I'm playing drag me down non stop. Liam's doing the same while Gus is listening to history lectures. At least he doesn't have to worry about his voice cracking. We arrive and step outside. We see they've prepared the spot for the sack race, there's a stage ready for the music performance and next to it a smaller stage for the brainy round. They've set up a tricky looking target for the archery round and we still don't know what the last anonymous round is going to be. Most of the other care homes seem to already be here. We go and sit down at our assigned seats and just casually talk until one of the judges gets up onto the stage
"Ladies and Gentlemen,welcome to our 12th carehome of the year competition! This year we have a total of 8 carehomes competing and there are five categories. The first category is the classic old sack race. Two contestants from each care home have to simply get inside a sack and jump from the starting point to the finish line a mile away. However there are some obstacles along the way and they must jump their way either through them or around them. The second round is the archery round. A single contestant simply has to hit the target with their arrow,however the target will be moving. The third round is the music round. From each care home 1-5 children are allowed to perform with any musical instrument they wish and may sing if they are willing too. The fourth round is the brainy round. Contestants will simply get asked questions and have to answer with facts and logic. And the last round is an anonymous round that shall be revealed when it is time and each care home have to work as a team to solve the task. But for now, in 5 minutes time the sack race will be beginning so contestants competing must  head over to the starting point now."

We all wish Johnny and Toby good luck as they get up and head over to the starting point. One of the judges starts counting down
"5..4..3..2..1 GO!"
And they're off. I see Johnny and Toby are fourth behind and luckily those in front of them fall over so now they're in third. They're half way through to the finish line when both teams in front of them fall over. YES THEY'RE IN THE LEAD! When suddenly Johnny falls over and Toby falls with him and the team behind them jump over them and cross the finish line. Damnit.
"And the winner is St.Andrew's carehome!!" The judge announces as we all groan. Johnny and Toby come back and apologize but we assure them it's fine.
"Ladies and gentlemen in 5 minutes time the archery round will be beginning will the contestants please make their way over" a judge announces
I swallow as I get up to head over and they all wish me good luck.
"You've got this" Liam encourages with his eyes twinkling and my nerves immediately wash away. Cheers for that one O'donovan. I head over and pick up my bow and arrow and wait for the judge to tell us to start. He counts down and yells "GO!" And I hear them all cheering in the crowd. I feel a rush of adrenaline rush over me and I aim. I don't miss one single hit.
"And the winner of this round is ELMTREE HOUSE!"
I've got the biggest smile on my face as I head back to my seat and they're all cheering as they drown me in hugs and smacks on the shoulder.
The judge announces that the music round will be starting and I'm much more nervous for this than I was for the archery round. Liam,Gus and I head over to the stage and thankfully, the judge tells us the other care homes are going first and our performance is last. So now we're just sitting backstage and honestly every single one of the performances was so lame. It was all either those boring tunes on the piano that come in every cliche book or someone was playing country music with the ukulele. Now it's finally our turn. Crap I'm nervous. We head onto the stage.

•Tracy's POV
It's finally time for Liam Gus and Riley to perform. All the other performances were lame as heck I just hope these guys come through. Gus positions himself behind the keyboard and Liam and Riley both pick up their guitars and position their mics. Wait they're gonna sing? I see Them both give each other a look before they start playing and Liam starts:

Riley:

Liam:

Both of them:

Riley:

They continue singing and I'm blown away. Their voices compliment each other's so well! And their guitars and Gus's keyboard top it all amazingly. And I noticed both of them sneaking some looks at each other. I pay attention again and see them both give an encouraging look at each other before nailing a high note together

No body can drag me down!

How. How do two people get such an amazing chemistry to nail a high note like that precisely together at the same time. They finish the song and everyone bursts into cheers and applause. None of the other lame performances got this great reaction from the crowd or the judges. They so nailed this. Now everyone's quiet waiting for the judges to announce who won and to no body's surprise they announce "ElmTree House!" And everyone bursts into even louder cheers and applause again.I see Riley and Liam both give Gus a hug before Riley jumps into Liam's arms and he spins her around.Seeing them hug each other like that makes me appreciate myself so much for telling them to sing. I feel like Cupid.

•Riley's POV
I jump into Liam's arms and the butterflies are unreal as he hugs me tight and spins me around. He puts me down and WE LITERALLY ACED THAT PERFORMANCE!!
We head back over to our seats and I think my eardrums split from the cheers and screaming. The judge announces that everyone will take a half an hour break before the brainy contest. We head back over to the van and lay a blanket down on the grass next to it and sit down and all have a drink. Other than Gus. He jumped back into the van where it's quiet and he's frantically reading his notes in order to prepare for the contest. Half an hour later and the contest begins. Gus of course got 12/12 questions correct but unfortunately so did some other bloke from another carehome so for this round we were a tie.
