Chapter fifteen

•Riley's POV
It's finally time for the last task and we're all waiting for the judges to announce what it is. There's only 4 carehomes left now and we're tied with (Evolutions children's services carehome)

*Ps this carehome isn't in the real show however it's a real carehome in Newcastle and please support them in any way you can*

The judges finally come onto the stage.
"Ladies and Gentlemen welcome,to the final round of our Carehome of the year competition. So far We've had the sack race,archery,music,and the brainy round. We are down to our top 4 carehomes and ElmTree house and Evolutions services are tied in the top spot. The winner of this round shall win a holiday in Milan,and an additional £800 to support their carehome. In this final Round each care home will be given a map and they will have to follow that map to wherever it leads them. However there will be a few stops along the way and there will be some small problems they will have to solve. The first team to finish and reach the spot marked onto the map is the winner. They will have to all work together to figure out the tasks and the main purpose of this round is to test their teamwork. I now ask each head careworker to come and collect the map for their team." And Mike gets up to go get the map. I turn to the others and Johnny says
"Shouldn't be too hard"
"Yeah as long as you lot don't mess it up" saph comments
"Oh like you won't?" Johnny retorts
They start arguing and Liam breaks it up
"Oi enough we ain't even started yet"
Mike comes back and shows us the map. It leads through the forest and there are some marked (X)'s for where we have to stop and look for the tasks. We start walking and don't stop for another 10 minutes before Tee points up at a Tree and exclaims "Look!" We all look up and see a note hanging off of a tree branch. Liam being the tallest reaches up and grabs it and reads out loud:

"Here you have found the first of your tasks,don't be too weary as it isn't your last. Take six steps west and you will see,a little bird up in a tree. Convince it to come down forth, and begin to sing for it,will be the key to your wings."

"Ok what the hell is that supposed to mean "be the key to your wings" we aren't exactly gonna fly are we" Toby frowns
"No it just means the key to us heading forward to the next task" Sapphire rolls her eyes
"And what about convince a bird to come down to sing we don't exactly understand bird language" frank adds
"We'll cross the bridge when we get there" Gina responds
"Gus which direction is west" Tracy asks
"That way." Gus points and we all spread out to find a bird up in a tree.
"Over here!" Nina and Harry yell and we go over and sure enough there's a birds nest.
"Ok now how the hell do we get it to come down without it flying off" Carmen groans
We're all thinking but we can't think of a possible suggestion. When suddenly I remember I have some snacks in my bag. I open it up and get out a Sandwich and seperate the bread slices. I crumble them up and lay them at the bottom of the tree and gently whistle for the bird to notice me. When it does I point out the bread slices and slowly back away so it will come down and sure enough it does. It begins swallowing down the bread crumbs and I slowly crumble up some more and throw them for it. We wait in silence for the bird to finish and when it does it just stands there and looks at us.
"Why isn't it doing anything" Carmen whispers
Liam slowly walks towards it and kneels down next to it. Then he slowly moves his hand forwards and strokes it and straight at his touch, it begins singing. It continues singing for about 3 minutes when suddenly somethings moving in the nest. It keeps moving till the nest tips over and about 100 eggs are falling out of it. We all panic because of what will happen to those poor chicks but when the eggs hit the ground and crack, there aren't any chicks in there. Instead each one has a key.
"What exactly are the keys supposed to be for" Lily questions.
"Mike give me the map a second" I say
He gives it to me and I examine it and see a fence on it. I look around and sure enough there's a fence over there. I walk over to it but it's locked.
"Right so obviously one of these keys open that fence"
"But how do we know which one they all look the same" Harry says
"It'll obviously be a different one. There are about 100 keys and these are all big and silver so look for a key that's different" Liam states
We all spread out and are looking across the ground and through and under the leaves and grass when Johnny yells "found it!" We all go over and sure enough he's holding a small bronze Baldwin key. Mike opens the fence and we all head through and continue walking. We reach a clear opening and there's nothing but grass.
"According to the map there should be a task here somewhere" Tracy frowns. And boy there was. Out of no where a dog leaps over and jumps on me and is licking my face and barking excitedly as I lay flat on my back. Yay dog drool.
