Chapter Seventeen

•Riley's POV
Me,Johnny,Toby,Frank,Liam,Nina and Harry are in the garden and we're playing football while Nina and Harry are laughing and cheering us on and occasionally wetting us with water pistols to throw us off and the grass is all wet and we're still playing,when I tackle the ball from Johnny and Liam tackles it from me then I tackle it back when suddenly Nina completely drowns us with a water gun and we both slip and I land on his chest. Nice one sis. I swear to the heavens above i think i saw my life flash by as my heart and chest went wild and I felt so aloft,so vulnerable, and as we both got up and laughed our butts off I felt my heart literally ache at the sun hitting his laughing face and his wet hair framing his perfectly sculpted face. He looked at me and we made eye contact and he gave me one of his charming smiles and I'm surprised that my heart didn't leap out and start zooming up to space. I turn around and see Nina laughing her head off at the fact that she soaked us so bad she caused us to slip onto each other and get completely drenched in water. Oh it's on. I grab a water gun and chase after her as she's running for her life and completely soak her. I pick her up and start tickling her to the death as payback and I think she nearly wet herself from laughing and all the water. Sometimes I forget she's only 2 and a half. We go inside to dry ourselves up and the whole time my mind is just going "Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam Liam." Now I'm busy brushing Nina's hair when Gina comes in
"Hey babes could you come downstairs for a minute?"
"What for?" I ask
"There's someone here to talk to you" she says a bit grimly
I furrow my brow in confusion and tell Nina to go play as I go downstairs into the guest room and see-

You have got to be kidding me.

•Liam's POV
Nina completely drenches us in water and we slip and as she falls onto my chest and I just hope that with her head laying on my chest she doesn't feel my heartbeat going completely out of control. As she gets up I feel a sudden warmth drift off from me and realize that she was the warmth. Not physically of course physically we're both soaking wet in cold water yet as she got up and our bodies weren't touching anymore I felt myself suddenly lose a certain warmth. I'm just glad that it isn't showing on my face and as we laugh and laugh I nearly lose it at her beautiful laugh which makes even the sun look dull. We make eye contact and that smile I got from her was all I needed. She went and chased after Nina and soaked her completely then proceeded to tickle her to the death and I don't think I've ever felt more alive. What the hell liam since when have I become such a sap. I go inside to dry myself up when I go past the guest room and see a woman sitting there. That's weird her eyes look strangely similar to Riley's and her lips are the same shape as Nina's. Weird. I go and get dried and get changed when I go back downstairs and I Riley completely shouting herself hoarse at that woman. I've never seen her this angry. And I mean never.

•Riley's POV
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING HERE?!" I Yell at her.
"What am I not allowed to see my own daughters now?" She responds
"Daughters? DAUGHTERS? WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO EVEN BE IN OUR PRESENSE"
"Calm down little miss perfect it's not as if I'm here for you. I'm here to take Nina back"
"If you ever even think about coming face to face with her I won't rest until I've made you wish you were never born" I say in a low deathly calm voice.
"What and who do you think you are to come in between us? You're just a pathetic little teenager that's not worth anything"
I laugh. I actually laugh until it turns into a shriek
"LISTEN HERE WOMAN. YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT TO ANYTHING TO DO WITH NINA. I SACRIFICED MY OWN CHILDHOOD,LIFE,HAPPINESS RAISING HER AND WHAT WERE YOU DOING? OH YEAH THATS RIGHT OUT DRINKING AND GAMBLING AND MAKING LIFE FOR EVERYONE AROUND YOU MISERABLE. LAST TIME I WAS TOO WEAK AND LET YOU GET TO ME AND TRIED TO TAKE MY OWN LIFE CAUSE OF YOU. BUT NOT THIS TIME ROUND. THERE IS NO WAY YOU'RE PUTTING NINA THROUGH WHAT YOU PUT ME THROUGH. SHES ALWAYS HATED YOU AND ALWAYS WILL"

Mike and Gina come running when they hear me screaming at her and they yell
"WHATS GOING ON" I turn around and face them in disbelief
"AND YOU TWO. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING EVEN LETTING HER STEP FOOT INTO THIS PLACE WHAT HAPPENED TO OH WE'LL CALL THE POLICE ON THEM IF THEY TRY TO COME IN CONTACT WITH YOU" I shout at them
"What?! She told us she was the nurse that helped you recover at the hospital and came to see how you were doing!"
I feel rage and anger bubbling inside of me and i feel like a volcano waiting to erupt.
"Get out of here and never show your face again" I glare at her and as I turn around I bump into a confused Liam who's facial expression is saying "what's going on?" I just go past him and head up into my room and slam the door.

•Liam's POV
She just angrily pushes past me and I hear her slam her door. The woman also pushes past me and runs out of the place and I see Mike calling the police. Then it suddenly clicks. I say to Gina angrily
"Don't tell me that was her mum"
She just nods and let's out a sigh.
"AFTER EVERYTHING SHE PUT THEM THROUGH HOW COULD YOU LET HER SHOW UP" I Rage at her before running upstairs to check on Riley. I knock on the door and gently ask "mind if I come in?" She opens it and pulls me inside before slamming it again. That poor door. I examine her face and on every inch of it is anger. But underneath all that anger I can tell she's also upset. I really can't blame her. She's just sitting in silence. I go and sit down next to her and wrap my arm around her shoulder. She lays her head on my shoulder and I slightly tense up at this feeling. But now is not the moment for me to dwell on my thoughts and feelings. She needs someone there for her. And I'm going to be that someone.
"Listen Ri,the only things parents are good at is messing up our lives and making us feel like crap cause they're too miserable with themselves so they gotta make everyone else feel miserable too. But come on,will you,Riley Power, ace at music,archery,being a big sister,professional at scamming,let a miserable old bat like that win? The Riley I know would be using her archery skills and aim a stink bomb at her mum through the window while she's still visible." I smirk. She smirks back and gets up and aims perfectly. Hearing a scream from outside from the window tells me that Riley hit her target. She turns around and smiles
"Thanks Liam" quietly
I look at her eyes and see a look in them that I've never seen before and I try and pretend that my heart isn't threatening to burst out and say
"You know those people in town aren't gonna get scammed by themselves you know"
She smirks and we head out the door and scam the day away.

•Riley's POV
A week has past and it's finally time to go to Milan. Our flight is at 2am and it's going to be 4 hours and 25 minutes. Right now it's 8pm and we're all chilling in the living room. Nina's asleep in my lap and I'm texting Lydia. Apparently she's coming back in 4 months for a visit. We're still texting when Tracy calls me and asks me to help her out with the sensory alarms. I gently put Nina down on the sofa and put a blanket over her before going to help Tracy. Once we're done I flop onto the sofa next to Nina and decide to take a nap before we leave and my eyes slowly close and I drift off. I have a strange dream that I'm asleep on a rough surface but a cuddly teddy bear picks me up and lays me down on a cloud next to Nina. The teddy bear smells and feels familiar and when it puts me down it starts to head over to a cloud opposite our cloud, but I hold onto it not wanting it to go.

•Liam's POV
I see Riley asleep on the floor next to the sofa and I think Nina might have accidentally pushed her off in her sleep. I pick her up and I'm alarmed at how light she is. Has she not been eating properly? I gently lay her down on the couch next to Nina and get up to go sit on the other sofa when she grabs my hand. She must be dreaming and not aware of what's going on but all the same I feel the butterflies in my stomach fluttering wild at her warm hand holding onto mine. I sit down on the floor next to the sofa and her hands still holding onto mine. I lay my head of the sofa and start to drift off.
