"You two can go wash up downstairs. I think I might have some clothes for the two of you to wear..." You gesture.

"Yes, yes. Ms. Y/n!" They both say before running down the stairs.

You smile. "Those boys sure are something."

"Oh yes, yes. They are very special. I am ever so grateful to have found such loyal helpers like the two of them." Nook nods.

You open your wardrobe, take two blue T-shirts and fold them neatly on the bed. "Say... How did you find the Nooklings anyway?" You asked while you sat down on the chair next to him.

He laughs a little. "Well - it's a long story... but I suppose I can tell you." He continues on. "I worked in a humble little shack you see... I was just starting off as a store clerk after the 'Incident'..."  He mumbles a bit at the end.

"After I got chased away from the past town I had to relocate my shop elsewhere... I lost all my money and so I started with a small shack. I called it 'Nook's Cranny'.

It was a cold winter morning. I had woken up from behind the cash register,  folded my blankets neatly, and hid them in a box. Oh, might I mention- I did not have a home back then. So I used to sleep in the shop." He explains.

"Wow, you slept in the shop? Like- On the floor?" You baffle.

"Yes, yes. It was not very easy back then...

The shop was freezing cold since I had no bells to pay for air conditioning...

I was doing my daily maintenance when I heard cries from what seemed to be children?

I have to confess I wasn't so very compassionate back then...

That's one of the many things I regret from my past...

I ignored the cries from the children and kept on sweeping. It wasn't much of my concern..." He admits.

"Mr. Nook how could you!" you lightly shove him.

"I-It was a long time ago. I wasn't the same Racoon as I am now. No, no. I was much more..." he stops.

"Insensitive?" you connote.

"Y-you did not have to put it that way!" He proclaims.

You laugh.

"Moving on... The cries started to fade away after a while. I did not see a reason why to investigate so I brushed it off ever so casually however the day felt awfully dull. I made no sales nor made money that day. I was deeply disappointed...

It was dark and the cold only seemed to get worse. My blankets were ever so thin and I found myself shivering. So I decided to go buy new ones. While I strolled the snowy streets I heard the cries again.

This time they seemed louder. And as stubborn as I was I decided to ignore it again." Nook shrugs.

You frown at him.

"It wasn't until I arrived that I realized I did not have a single bell in my pockets... Sadly I made my way back to the shop.

I didn't have much to wear either. I wore a single blue apron...

It was then when I was walking back I heard the cries again. Out of frustration, I went to investigate where the ruckus was coming from. The cries led me to a small box in a dark alley...

I carefully leaned close to see what was in it. And to my surprise!

It was two little raccoons! I couldn't believe my eyes...
