Thursday I visited London for a meeting at the Ministry and meet up with Hermione before she leaves. Currently, I wore my dressiest robes. Dad was laying on the bed with Mom watching TV. They looked up as I exited the bathroom. The two of them smirked at me as I saw them look at my clothes.
"Well where are you going, mister?" Dad asked me. I looked at him and then at my clothes.
"I have a meeting and some personal matters in London." I told them, "The meeting with some ambassadors, I think ." I gave them a cheesy grin and sauntered out of the motel room. Just as I was about to apparate, I heard footsteps.
"Evan, wait!" Dad called after me. He ran up to me, "I want to come with you." He told me. I frowned and pinched the bridge of my nose.
"No," I said firmly. He looked outraged.
"No?" He asked. I nodded and pulled out a key. I held the port key in my hands and waved goodbye. There was a pull and Dad grabbed onto the key. We landed in an alley. I glowered down at him.
"What the hell are you doing?" I exclaimed. He shrunk back.
"I was going to come with you to your meeting." He told me. I seethed silently before I calmed down.
"You'll stay temporarily at one of my estates here." I glared at him, " Got it?" He looked as if he was going to burst out laughing.
"You? Rich?" He chuckled. I rolled my eyes and pulled him into the nearest apartment building. I dragged him up the stairs and into the room with no number. I tapped my wand on the knob and heard a click.
"Open it," I told him. He raised an eyebrow and slowly opened the door. There was a crackling fire going and a TV above it. A white Italian sofa resided on a grey carpet. There was a wall purely made of glass steps that led to a kitchen. I shut the door.
"Everest!" I shouted. A house-elf appeared in front of us. Dad let out a scream.
"Master Gaunt, welcome home! Everest and the other house-elves maintained Master's home while Master was away." Everest said as she took my coat. I went straight to the kitchen and poured a cup of coffee. I took my necklace off and placed it in front of me. Dad sat next to me silently and Everest put a cup for him.
"So, tell me about this necklace." He said.
"My mum is in there," I said keeping tears back. Dad shot me a sympathetic look, "Her ashes." I tapped the necklace. Dad grabbed my hand in comfort.
"For the longest time, I thought it would just be me and mum and my uncle. I didn't need you to be here." A tear came down my face, "I lost everything including my ability to let anyone in. You proved me wrong. Thank you." He smiled and hugged me. I looked at my watch and read the time.
" I got to go to bed. Hermione's coming over tomorrow." I jogged down the hallway.
Third POV
Johnny explored the magical apartment in awe. He wandered into a room with bookshelves covering the walls. There was an old-timer desk and a moving picture of Evan sitting in a chair with a blank look. The picture looked at Johnny and raised an eyebrow. There was a grip on Johnny's leg.
"Gah!" Johnny jumped and looked down at the house-elf, "Who are you?" He asked the elf. The elf looked up at Johnny.
"Would Master Rose like Haddock to take him to Master Gaunt?" The elf, Haddock, deadpanned. Johnny nodded confused. Haddock pulled Johnny down the hallways of the apartment. They stopped in front of a door with a sign that said 'Keep out!' Haddock pushed the door open softly. Evan lay limp clutching a stuffed snake. The elf disappeared with a soundless pop leaving Johnny alone. He entered the room silently.
"Dad?" Evan whispered. Johnny's eyebrows raised.
"Hey, Evan." He said softly. Evan sat upright in his bed and Johnny sat next to him, "Go back to bed." He pushed Evan back down.
