The next week went by fast. Everything is pretty much the same. It has become a routine of Jake coming to my house every morning to walk, we either go to his house or mine after school. Jake is become very suspicious about why my parents are never home, but I always try to try to change topic. It's obvious to both of us that there are feelings involved, but neither of us bring it up.
I slowly wake up to the sound of my alarm clock. I sigh and pretty much roll out of bed. I hit my alarm clock, making it stop buzzing. I rub my eyes and slowly walk to the bathroom.
I wash off my face and put on my makeup. I slowly take off my shirt and pants and put on fresh clothes. I realize I got up earlier then I should have. I grab my phone and walk out to the living room. I sit on the couch and scroll through my Instagram. I smile at the nice comments. I hear someone knock on the door and then Jake opens it. He lightly smiles at me and I smile back.
"Sorry I'm a little early," he says and sits next to me. I click off my phone and put it in my pocket.
"It's fine," I say back.
"I couldn't sleep, so I got dressed and was like, fuck it." he says and I laugh. I look back over at him and I slowly ease out of my laugh. He looks at me and I look back.
Everything goes silent. We stare at each other for a moment and I search his eyes. We both slowly lean in and I kiss him. My heart beats fast and I slowly pull away, looking at him. He lightly smiles and looks down for a second. He looks back up.
"Do you want to.." he says and trails off a bit.
"Like," I say and lightly smile back.
"Date?" he asks and finishes his sentence. I lightly nod and look at him again. He looks at his phone and slowly stands up. He holds out his hand to help me up. I take his hand and he pulls me up. I grab my stuff off the couch.
There is still a lot of stuff he doesn't know about me, but I'm hoping he doesn't leave because of that. Although we just met a week ago, it's still... I don't know honestly. I feel like he is really important to me already.
"Ready?" he asks, interrupting my thoughts. I nod. I walk out and he follows behind me. We start to walk and I look at him
"Do you think we are moving too fast?" I ask and he looks back down at me.
"Maybe, but it doesn't matter. We can see how this works." he says and lightly smiles.
"Okay, well is there anything you want to know about me?" I ask him.
"Actually yes. I want to know where your parents are, for real." he asks and I sigh.
"Is it okay if I say I don't want to talk about it?" I ask and he shakes his head.
"Come on," he says and I look up at him.
"Well they left me. They gave me $1,000. They still pay for bills and such. I have no idea where they are or why they left." I say and look down a little.
"When?" he asks and I shrug.
"A few months ago." I say and I can see him looking at me.
"I'm sorry, I'm sure they had a good reason." he says calmly and I lightly shake my head. I take a deep breath, trying not to think about it. We arrive at school and I hear the whispering.
"Jamie fucks everyone you know," one of the popular girls named Kylie says to her best friend Ashley who is standing next to her. She doesn't exactly yell it but she says it loud enough for her little click to hear, along with me as I walk by. My heart pounds as I hear laughter. I feel Jake lightly touch my hand and he holds it. I don't really notice it but I grip his hand a bit.
"It's okay." Jake says quietly.
"Slut," someone walks by me and says. I can't put a name on the person but he has a baseball hat on so I'm figuring he's popular. I can see Jake looking at me and I glance back at him. We arrive the the doors and I stand in my usual spot next to the door. He looks at me again and I look back.
"Why do people hate me?" I say and I keep holding his hand, him doing the same.
"They are just assholes who have no life." he says back and I sigh a little.
"I don't even know anymore." I say and lightly close my eyes, leaning against the wall.
The thing about Jake is no one really physically hurts me, I'm guessing it's because people 'fear him', just a little. But verbally, it's harder to stop. The bell rings and we wait until most people are in.
"Are you okay?" he asks and we start to walk. I take another deep breath and nod.
"I'm good." I say and we walk past the middle school, Gemma walks by us and her smiles grows when she sees us holding hands.
"You guys are?" she asks and I look at him. He nods and I lightly smile, looking back at her.
"Who's that?" another girl comes behind her and asks.
"That's my brother and his girlfriend." she says and looks back at her. Gemma smiles and so does the girl, who sort of stares at Jake for a moment.
"Guys we have to go," Jake says and I nod.
"Bye," Gemma says and lightly waves at us. They start walking.
"He's kinda cute." the girl says as they walk away.
"That's my brother dude." Gemma says and I smile. He laughs a bit and we walk, picking up the pace a bit so we aren't too late.
"You know something I've noticed about you?" he asks and I look at him for a second.
"What?" I ask him and he looks down at me.
"You rarely ever eat." he says and I bite my lip a little.
"Yeah I do," I say and he shakes his head.
"Not when I'm around, not at lunch, not at your house, not at mine. And you're insanely thin," he says and we walk up the stairs.
"Not really," I say and he shakes his head.
"You weigh like five pounds." he says and I shrug. "I want you to eat at lunch today." he says and slowly lets go of my hand as we both walk to the back of the class.
"Why?"
"Because I want to make sure you're okay." he says as I slide into my seat.
