(31 week ultrasound.)

"I'm back," Jake says and I look toward the door.

"How was your first day?" I ask and he throws his book bag on the floor.

"A lot better than you'd think." he says and sits next to me.

"What do you mean?" I ask and he smiles.

"A lot of questions about you and the baby. I mean, you would expect everyone to be a dick about it, but not one person was." he says and I have a feeling that's not the full truth, but I just go with it.

"That's really good," I say back and he smiles.

"Speaking of that, how are you two?" Jake asks and I look down at my stomach.

"We're both good." I say back to him and he nods.

"Good," he says back and I look at him.

"What about Brady?" I ask and he shrugs.

"He got held back, plus he hasn't even made eye contact with me since our parents broke up." he says back and I nod.

"Damn." I say back and he nods.

"It was different." he says and I look at him.

"What do you mean?" I ask and he lightly smiles.

"You weren't there," Jake says back and I smile.

"At least it was good for you," I say and he nods.

"What did you do all day?" he asks and I shrug.

"Nothing really," I say back and he puts his arm around my shoulder, pulling me a little closer to him.

"Good," he says back and I put my head on his shoulder.

A flash of pain shoots through my stomach and I let out a small grunt of pain.

I take Jake's hand and squeeze it. Jake's obviously a lot stronger than me so when I squeeze his hand, it doesn't hurt him at all.

"Are you okay?" he asks and I don't answer. The pain slowly starts to ease away and he's still looking at him.

"Yeah," I say and sigh a little. "Sorry," I say and look back at him. I slowly let go of his hand. He shakes his head and smiles.

"You're fine," he says back and I lay my head back on his shoulder.
