"It's not that serious!" Jake says loudly back to me after we begin talking about the 'Kylie' situation.
"It is!" I almost yell back.
"You don't have to be so protective!"
"I'm not, I'm just worried!" I say back, now yelling.
The loud rain still makes a rushing sound against the roof. It's been on and off rains for the past few days.
Jake doesn't respond. Just sits on the bed. I walk to Emily's room and lean against the doorway. I watch her as she amuses herself with her stuffed animals she has in her crib.
My eyes water up and I blink which makes the tears fall down my already damp cheeks. I feel the ring on my left ring finger and touch it with my shaking hand.
I slowly pick her up, kissing her head. She keeps hugging one of her favorite stuffed bear. I hold her in my arms tightly. I lightly bounce her and I think about what we would do with Emily if we broke up.
She can't not have both of us. Jake and I both know that we can't leave her with one parent. I sigh, deciding not to think about it anymore.
I set her back down and lays herself down. I wipe my eyes with the back of my hand.
I walk out to the living room and lean against the wall, sliding down it. I look at Jake as he kneels down in front of me.
"Baby," Jake says very quietly and I look at him. He takes his sleeve and wipes my cheeks.
He helps me stand up and he wipes my eyes again. I try to stop the crying by blinking the tears away.
"I don't even have a problem with not talking to Kylie, I have a problem with you thinking that I would leave you for her," he says in the same calm voice.
"She's everything. She's gorgeous, skinny, nice, smart. She's everything that I'm not." I say back and look away from his face. The part about gorgeous, it's not my opinion. It's a serious fact, she is perfect.
"Jamie look at me." he says and I don't. I keep looking down and sigh. "Look at me." he says again, a little more sternly. I look up at him and he puts his hands on the wall next to my shoulders.
"What?" I ask, trying not to let my voice crack as much as it is.
"Don't talk like that. Jamie, you're fucking perfect, I wouldn't be with you if I didn't want to." he says in a calm and soft voice. I hug him, wrapping my arms tightly around him. He does the same thing and puts his head on mine.
"I'm sorry," Jake say and kisses the top of my head. I close eyes for a minute.
"Don't be," I say in the same voice back.
We stay like that for a few minutes. I pull away from him and he doesn't let go of my waist.
"Come here," he says quietly and lightly takes my hand. He leads me to Emily's room and he stands in the doorway. I stand next to him.
Emily has fallen asleep in her crib and Jake rests his arm around my shoulder, pulling me as close to him as I can get.
"We made that," Jake says quietly so he doesn't wake Emily. I wipe the tears off of my face with my hand again and nod, smiling.
"Technically I made that," I say back and look at him.
"Touché," he says back and he kisses me. I kiss him back, moving so I'm in front of him not beside him.
He puts his hands on my hips and I put my arms around his neck. I slowly pull away and look at him.
"This time, two years ago, I could never imagined me being like this. A beautiful daughter and fiancé," he says quietly and we walk out of Emily's room.
"This time, two years ago, I couldn't imagine myself being alive right now," I say back quietly and look up at him. He looks back and shakes his head.
I walk to our bedroom, still not
fully happy, but a little better. He lays next to me and I turn toward him. I close my eyes, being emotional drained.
