Bokuto looked around, worried. "Where's Atsumu? He's supposed to toss to me and Hinata today…"
Sakusa looked up. "I'm not sure. We'll wait a little longer." A few moments later Sakusa stood. "I'll go get the captain to start… I guess…"
The gym doors opened and Atsumu walked in silently. He set his bag down and took a deep breath. "Hey guys! Sorry for being late!"
"Atsumu!" Bokuto and Hinata hurried to Atsumu. "Set for us!"
Atsumu smiled. "Of course!"
Sakusa looked around, waiting for Atsumu's counterpart. Osamu wasn't there though. Atsumu needed Osamu. Despite them not getting along he needed the other male.
Sakusa walked over, just listening.
Soon enough they were practicing, Atsumu not setting like he used to. It was obvious to the people spiking and watching, seeing him hesitate when letting the ball go.
During their water break Atsumu talked with the other boys, smiley as ever.
"So why were you late?" Hinata questioned, bouncing on his toes.
"Just had a little home issue."
"Ew."
Atsumu laughed. "Okay then."
"Where's Osamu?"
Atsumu blinked. He took a deep breath. "Excuse me for a sec."
Sakusa followed Atsumu as he walked to the bathrooms. Atsumu glanced behind him. Sakusa nodded.
"Hey."
"Hi. What's going on?"
"Eh. Nothing much."
Sakusa sighed, pulling down his mask. "Well. If it's nothing much, get back out there. Osamu might kick you when he gets here if you don't."
Atsumu's smile dropped. "He's not coming in today. Or probably tomorrow either. Or the day after that or the day after… that…"
Sakusa stared. "Why?"
"He um… he's not dead. Just to make that clear. But he's close. Really close. He went into a coma last night… cause he got into a car accident."
Sakusa's brows raised. "Why are you here?"
"Because… because I love volleyball. You guys are my family too."
"That's your brother Atsumu. You need to go to him instead."
"No!"
"Atsumu stop putting your ego in the way and go."
"I'm not! It's my God damned fault that he's like this! I can't go and see him because as soon as I do my parents are going to hound me for answers about why I let my brother get hurt." Atsumu's hands started to shake. "My brother is all I have and he got hurt because of me."
Sakusa locked the door before taking Atsumu into a firm hold. "It's not your fault. Don't say it is…"
"B-but it is…"
"Why?"
"Because he was paying attention to me instead… instead of the road. I couldn't shut my fucking mouth for five seconds so he could… could see t-the…" Atsumu attempted a deep breath. Instead he started crying, holding onto Sakusa. "A-and now I'm probably making you uncomfortable."
"You're not. At all." Sakusa whispered. He held on tighter. "It's okay…"
"It's not! He's going to die because of me!"
