Tsukishima yawned, turning over in bed. He opened his eyes ever so slightly. Two dark eyes stared back. Tsukishima paused. "Yama?"
Yamaguchi smiled.
Tsukishima closed his eyes. "Mm… No good morning kiss?"
Yamaguchi hurriedly snuggled close. He kissed Tsukishima's lips gently.
"Thank you," The blond whispered. He kissed Yamaguchi and pulled him over to the other side of the bed. "Two if you feel okay."
Yamaguchi tapped Tsukishima's cheek twice.
Tsukishima smiled and kissed his lips again. "I want to stay in bed."
Yamaguchi wiggled around a bit, getting comfortable. He huddled and put his head on Tsukishima's chest. He started to bite at his boyfriend's neck, giggling. It was so quiet no one would have noticed.
"You're getting better."
Yamaguchi smiled.
Tsukishima looked down. "Have you been practicing your speech? Hm?"
Yamaguchi nodded hurriedly.
"Oh really? What have you learned to say?"
"I-I… Lo… Lov… Love you," Yamaguchi whispered. His hands played with the blankets anxiously, twisting and turning.
Tsukishima grinned. "Good job."
Yamaguchi looked around. His eyes found something and he got up. He pointed to the object. "B-b-bunny."
Tsukishima watched as Yamaguchi went around and picked up easy-to-say things, his less than a whisper voice loud in Tsukishima's room.
He remembered when Yamaguchi had cried in his arms and he couldn't hear it. His heart had hurt for the smaller male and he'd taught him along with a therapist how to talk.
The first thing he'd said was mine. It was broken and strained but beautiful.
"Yama. Come here." Tsukishima opened his arms. Yamaguchi crawled into his arms, smiling. He pinched Tsukishima's cheek.
"Love."
Tsukishima kissed his forehead. "I love you."
Yamaguchi squirmed. He giggled softly.
Tsukishima took him to the kitchen and put a few eggs into a pot of water. Yamaguchi's slightly shaky hands moved around the kitchen, mouth moving as if he was saying the names of the items.
Tsukishima smiled. He felt proud. "Angel, come here."
Yamaguchi turned back to Tsukishima. "Tsuki."
"Good job." Tsukishima praised.
Yamaguchi smiled. "Love." He kissed Tsukishima.
Tsukishima stepped away from the stove and hefted Yamaguchi onto the counter so that it was easier for him. "Would you like to do your vocal exercises today?"
Yamaguchi nodded hurriedly.
"Great. You're going to need to get your cards, okay?"
Yamaguchi nodded. They both stayed still until the water started boiling.
Tsukishima went back to working on breakfast and Yamaguchi got blueberry ego waffles. He popped them into the toaster, bouncing on his toes.
"M-mm!"
Tsukishima glanced over. He gently took Yamaguchi's hand into his. "Ah. Relax." He dabbed at the little cut on Yamaguchi's finger and put a bandaid over the cut. "Better?"
Yamaguchi nodded. He rubbed over his bandaid before going back to putting flowers made of strawberries on the now toasted waffle.
"So the vocal cards… Then probably a nap because forcing yourself to talk. Then lunch. Wait. Do you want lunch before or after you take a nap?"
Yamaguchi held up one finger.
"Before?"
Yamaguchi nodded. He yawned.
"Okay then breakfast, walk, cards, lunch, nap. Then work things and dinner."
Yamaguchi gave him a thumbs up.
Tsukishima set the table and set down everything. Yamaguchi put his little waffle creations down. He smiled.
Tsukishima ate and watched as Yamaguchi touched things with his fork and mouthed the names of the food items. He couldn't manage the names very well since he had been injured but he was getting better.
Tsukishima would rub his back later to make sure he wasn't hurting.
Yamaguchi finished and took his medication, one for pain, one for anxiety, and a vitamin.
Tsukishima got dressed and waited for Yamaguchi, who grabbed his cane and followed. His little limp was fading but his hip still hurt. Not his fault.
Tsukishima put an arm around his waist and helped him out, the stairs downstairs to the lobby a little hard to work with. Yamaguchi was quiet though, not complaining about the pain.
The walk was slow and Yamaguchi's hips hurt but he was okay.
Tsukishima kissed his cheek and hair and led him back to their home. "Are you okay?"
"Mhmm."
Tsukishima nodded. "Go get your cards, angel."
Yamaguchi showed him the package of cards and sat down.
Tsukishima sat down and shuffled the cards. He put one down. It was relatively easy, just the word water.
Yamaguchi mouthed the word over and over, anxious.
"You okay?"
Yamaguchi shook his hand in a so-so motion. "Mm…"
Tsukishima put another card down. The letter a.
Yamaguchi tried to remember how to speak, holding his hands under the table. It was harder to speak after the accident and he'd forgotten how to talk so this sucked a lot more than anyone would think.
This was all because of someone on their phone while Yamaguchi had been walking along a sidewalk to go home to surprise Tsukishima with Valentine's chocolate.
He'd been hit from the side, shattering a part of his hip and causing his head to hit a pole. He'd been working for months to walk again, which he couldn't do often without needing help, and talking.
He spoke as much as a three-year-old and walked with either a cane or walker. Sometimes he needed a wheelchair but Tsukishima tried to make it feel better.
He'd wheel him around and around the park, making him giggle. Tsukishima rubbed his back and pampered him when the days got bad. And things like now, helping him talk.
It took hours to get a few words through. Yamaguchi ate afterward though and laid down with Tsukishima.
Tsukishima held him comfortably against his chest, rubbing his back and making sure he was okay. Yamaguchi's hips felt sore and he needed to go to sleep to let it pass.
"Yama…"
Yamaguchi huffed softly. "Mm?"
"Does it hurt?"
"Mhmm."
"What do you need?"
"Nofing."
Tsukishima rubbed his cheek. "Alright..."
A few moments later Yamaguchi fell asleep, holding Tsukishima's hand. Tsukishima just kept still, not wanting to startle him awake. It felt nice.
