CW: throwing up
Bokuto hummed quietly as he sat in his bed, scrolling through his phone to find a picture to send to a friend of his. It was dark in his room tonight which was a bit off since usually he had at least one light on. But it was okay since his lover was sleeping next to him, curled up with a book in his arms.
Bokuto had tried to take it at some point only to be whined at. Kuroo was a nerd though so it was fine and Bokuto found it funny.
Bokuto found his eyes heavy now and resorted to trying to sleep. He turned off his phone and got close to Kuroo in the dark, wrapping his arms around him. Kuroo whined softly at this and Bokuto laughed. "Shhhh, shhhh."
Kuroo wiggled a bit, something that wasn't normal for his sleeping habits. Bokuto kissed his hair, holding closer. Kuroo whined a bit more, starting to turn away.
"Hey man... it's okay. Relax." Bokuto leaned into him, wrapping his arms around him. "I'm right here."
Kuro flinched and gasped quietly, holding onto Bokuto's hands.
"You woke up?"
Kuro took a few deep breaths. "Lights."
"Gotcha." Bokuto set one hand on Kuroo's chest while the other turned on his bedside lamp. "Hey, hey, hey take some deep breaths. Easy."
Kuroo turned around and Bokuto held him close. "Sorry."
"No need to be. It's just a bad dream."
"O-okay." Kuroo burrowed into Bokuto's neck. "Just hold me please."
"Of course. Wanna tell me what that one was about? You've been having a lot of bad dreams lately..." Bokuto ran his fingers through Kuroo's hair. "Is something going on that I need to know about?"
"Dunno," Kuroo whispered.
"You feel a bit warm, maybe you're sick?"
"Prolly." Kuroo yawned. He got himself under Bokuto, curling up into his chest. "Night."
Bokuto kissed Kuroo's hair. "Goodnight."
Over time Bokuto was able to get to sleep, comfortable and safe. Kuroo eventually started whining again and Bokuto simply curled in on him tighter, giving him the weight he needed.
****
"Oh God," Bokuto groaned loudly. He eased up, rubbing his eyes. "Dude."
Kuroo whined. He held onto Bokuto's shirt. "Cold."
"Babe you're burning up." Bokuto leaned over and grabbed the thermometer. "Relax." Kuroo did as he was told and Bokuto moved his bangs carefully. It beeped and the screen turned red. "Guess who gets to stay home today?"
"What's it at?"
"38.3 (101 F)." Bokuto set the thermometer down and kissed Kuroo's cheek. "Just get comfortable honey, I'm gonna get you some water and a bowl of cereal."
"Mm no milk."
"Dry cereal?"
"No." Kuroo yawned. He curled up into a tighter bowl. "Berries..."
"Oh? Berries?"
"Mhmm."
"Black berries? Hm?"
"Yeah..."
Bokuto kissed his cheek again. "I'll be right back."
Kuroo hummed. He laid still in his bed as he waited, holding Bokuto's pillow. His whole body was freezing but his core was hot and he felt like melted ice. Bokuto came back and lifted him up into his lap. He eased him to eat as many berries as possible.
"You're feeling bad? Hm?" Bokuto whispered, on the verge of baby talking. It was a soothing sort of talk with Kuroo so he was hoping it would be okay. "Oh love you're a little pale too..."
Kuroo coughed. He burrowed into Bokuto again. "Is today an off today?"
"Today is an off day. How about I get some medicine and some soup?"
"Uber eats." Kuroo laid down.
Bokuto just smiled and spooned him. "Comfy?"
Kuroo nodded. "Mm head hurts."
Bokuto kissed the base of his neck. "A nap will fix it all."
Kuroo hummed. He clung to Bokuto's arms, getting himself to sleep. Bokuto played on his phone and just made sure Kuroo was warm. Kuroo kept shifting and whining, his shaky hands a source of worry for Bokuto.
Then, finally, he woke up. And it wasn't good.
Kuroo was whimpering, shaking and whispering. Bokuto turned him over, moving his hair from his face and touching his face to wake him all the way. "Hey, hey, hey! Tetsu. Tetsu, honey it's okay. It's just a dream baby."
Kuroo started to cry, clinging to him. "Feels... really gross! Gonna throw up!"
Bokuto grabbed him and rushed to the bathroom. Kuroo barely made it, shaking and crying and getting overwhelmed. Bokuto rubbed his back, kissing his hair. "Deep breaths... I know it's difficult but deep breaths. It's okay."
Kuroo glared at Bokuto before the heat of his fever getting the best of him and he simply curled into Bokuto, crying. "I don't feel good at all!"
Bokuto flushed the toilet and washed Kuroo's face off. "Let's get you cleaned up."
Kuroo got undressed and took a warm bath, shaky. Bokuto rid his body of sweat and tears and kissed his face. Kuroo struggled to stay awake even while being fed medicine and water and some soup. He got laid back in bed where he clung to Bokuto's shirt tiredly.
"Is everything feeling better?"
"I hate being sick..."
"Oh I know my love. Just slow down. Your poor sick brain gets jumbled fast."
"You're jumbled fast. Asshat."
Bokuto laughed. "I love you~"
"Hush."
"Aw."
"Love you too..." Kuroo looked up. "Very much."
Bokuto kissed his forehead. "You're so sweet, even if you try to harm me."
Kuroo groaned. "My stomach hurts so bad."
"I can only imagine after throwing up. How about we just get back to sleep without nightmares and stay calm?"
"Mhmm. Just you and me snuggling."
"Alright nerd, move." Bokuto shifted Kuroo and laid down with him under the blankets. His legs wrapped around him and he was careful with how tight he held Kuroo. Kuroo simply held on and his quiet breaths hit Bokuto slowly. It was all peaceful dreams from here.
