Kenma glanced over at Kuroo as they sat against the walls in the Fukurodani gym. The older male was staring at the center of the gym. "Kuroo?"
Kuroo didn't respond. He just kept staring, eyes stuck on his 2nd best friend. Bokuto cheered out after spiking a ball, his eyes wide with excitement. Kuroo smiled serenely.
"Ah." Kenma set down his game and yawned. He pat Kuroo's arm. "Kuroo."
Kuroo looked over. "Isn't he beautiful?"
"Do you like him?"
"So much." Kuroo chuckled softly. "Unfortunately."
Kenma's eyes widened. "For how long?"
"Eh? Why?"
"You know why. The disease."
"I know."
Kenma stared. "Kuroo, no."
Kuroo smiled sadly.
"How long?"
"A few days. It's alright though. I'll be okay."
"No. No, you could die. You need to tell him."
Kuroo shook his head. "It's alright."
Kenma sighed. "I hate you sometimes."
Kuroo shrugged. "Time for dinner."
Bokuto hurried over with Akaashi following close. That certainly hurt. Kuroo turned and coughed. He discarded whatever he had coughed up.
"Kuroo! Come eat with us!"
Kuroo got up and followed them, yawning. Bokuto got them trays and Akaashi sat close by them during dinner, on his phone.
Kuroo ate slower than normal, his throat hurting. Bokuto kept nudging him and laughing, not noticing much going on.
While Bokuto was rambling, Kuroo ended up slumping against him. Bokuto held him, laughing. "You're tired already?"
"A little." Kuroo yawned again. He hummed as Bokuto rubbed his side.
"I'll take you to the sleeping hall after helping Kaashi."
Kuroo nodded and closed his eyes. When he opened them again he was curled up in Bokuto's lap, unbelievably warm.
Bokuto was playing with his hair and talking to Yaku, who looked worried. Who wouldn't be worried at the sight of their captain fast asleep with a fever?
Kuroo almost immediately felt the itch of flower in his throat. He hurried out of Bokuto's lap. Kenma got up with a trash can and a blanket.
Kuroo threw up in the can and Kenma made sure no one could see the contents.
Bokuto came over, worried. "Kuroo? Hey, hey, hey. What's wrong?"
Kuroo shook his head. "No."
"I have medicine. Do you want some?"
"No!"
Bokuto looked to Kenma, who avoided his gaze. "What's going on?"
Kuroo retched and Bokuto moved back the blanket. He spotted the rose petals in the can and the blood and stared. "You have hanahaki…"Kuroo looked up and then around at his team. He looked at the roses and started crying. "Y-yeah. I do."
Bokuto walked out before coming back with a towel, washcloth, and bottles of soap. He helped Kuroo up and took him to the washroom.
Kuroo took a shower and Bokuto pulled him aside to wash his hair. "You okay?"
"My chest hurts…"
Bokuto sighed. He hugged him and felt the warmth in Kuroo's skin. "Who is it?"
Kuroo shook his head. "It'll go away."
Bokuto shook his head. He took Kuroo back to the sleeping hall and laid him down. He eased Kuroo to sleep as he coughed up red petals onto his pillow.
Kenma walked over when Kuroo had fallen asleep. "He's in love with you."
The whole room went quiet.
"Kuroo has been in love with you for a while and now he's sick."
"I never knew…" Bokuto looked down, brows furrowing. "How…?"
"I don't know. I don't care. But he's sick because of you." Kenma bent down and moved Kuroo's pillow.
Bokuto looked around. Yaku spoke up, his voice strained and quiet. "You don't love him, do you?"
"No, wait I… I just…"
The team looked away.
Bokuto sighed. "You guys do know that Akaashi and I don't like each other, right? Akaashi has a boyfriend. They're long-distance at the moment."
Kuroo shifted in his sleep, shakily sighing. Bokuto's heart broke at the sound. Kuroo wasn't healthy because of him.
Bokuto did love him. So much. But he wasn't going to just say it to a whole team right now.
****
Kuroo tossed a petal he'd just coughed up to the side.
Bokuto watched it before sighing. He looked around. No one was around.
"Kuroo?"
"Yeah?"
Bokuto put his hand over to the side and held his best friend's hand. "I love you too."
Kuroo startled. He started coughing and sputtering. A white rose petal fell out of his mouth and into his palm. Bokuto smiled. "I can breathe!"
"You're stupid."
Kuroo laughed. He hugged Bokuto tight, grinning.
"Hey! Hey! Hey! You're moving more!"
Kuroo laughed. He pulled away slightly and kissed Bokuto gently. Bokuto laughed into the kiss and leaned forward until he set Kuroo down and kept kissing him over and over, loving Kuroo's giggles.
"I love you so much!"
Kuroo giggled quietly. "You taste weird."
"I just ate!"
Kuroo reached up and rubbed his hair. "Beautiful..."
Bokuto smiled. He kissed Kuroo's forehead and rubbed his hair. "I love you. Dork."
Kuroo closed his eyes and nodded. "I love you."
Kenma walked by, holding the hand of a certain ginger. He spotted the gaze of his best friend lovingly starting up at Bokuto. Thank God...
