Iwaizumi Hajime was a strong, independent, and talented young man. He knew his strengths. He respected his weaknesses. But he was not going to ever let this go. He could never let this go again.
In the center of the room he was in, he saw Oikawa Tooru, the love of his life. He glanced at the solo cup he was holding and sighed. Maybe coming to his going away party was a mistake. All of this was a mistake. The whole falling in love thing, the pushing Oikawa to go on, or even smiling that one time at practice back in highschool. Oikawa was going to Argentina in two weeks and he would lose touch.
Iwaizumi turned to the corners of the room around him and saw couples sneaking away, their tipsy faces covered by hands with broken nails. His eyes went back to his cup and he realized that it was empty. Iwaizumi wove his way through the crowd and found the shots lined up on the counter. He turned to one of his own friends, Kuroo Tetsurou. Kuroo raised his eyebrows.
"What are you doing?"
"These aren't spiked, are they?"
"Nope. I've been watching them all night," Kuroo said proudly.
Iwaizumi nodded and glanced back into the living room where Oikawa was dancing with some girl, laughing as loud as the stereo. He turned back around and grabbed a shot, downing it. It burned on the way down but he didn't mind. Two more shots were grabbed and he coughed. Kuroo put a hand out. Iwaizumi looked at him. "What?"
"Slow down, it's not going anywhere." He ran a hand through his hair and looked at Oikawa. "Ah fuck dude, he's not-"
"He knows what he's doing. He's always going to be like this." Iwaizumi downed two more shots and cringed at the bitter taste. He went to the deck outside and breathed in some fresh air. At least out here it didn't reek of sex and alcohol.
"Iwaizumi! Look at what I found!"
Iwaizumi turned and saw Bokuto bounding up to him. He sighed. Bokuto was too loud for him. "What is it?"
"I found wine!" Bokuto sat next to him on the ground and opened the bottle. "Don't worry, I asked if I could have it first."
Iwaizumi hummed. He watched Bokuto pour a good amount of the light colored wine into a solo cup and accepted it as it was handed to him. It tasted like lemonade, how he imagined Oikawa's lips tasted after a summer day...
Iwaizumi downed the rest of the cup. He'd get drunk and go to bed like he always did when he was upset.
"Keiji says I shouldn't drink too much tonight, that he wants to see me home sober." Bokuto sighed lovingly. "He's so thoughtful."
Iwaizumi grabbed the bottle of wine from the ground and poured half of his cup full. Bokuto's eyes widened but he didn't dare say anything as Iwaizumi downed the alcohol without effort.
The rest of the night was a bit of a blur, hands reaching for shots and some sort of pill being handed to him to try. He let it dissolve under his tongue and sat back on the deck as the party only got rowdier behind him.
Bokuto came back outside and saw Iwaizumi. "Hey dude, Hinata is looking for you."
Iwaizumi stood and swayed a bit. "Okay, hang on."
Hinata appeared behind him and quirked a brow. "Iwaizumi-San? Is everything okay? You look out of it!"
Iwaizumi nodded and burped. He laughed. Oikawa would have found that disgusting. He paused. "Where is Oikawa?"
"He's inside." Hinata stared at his friend. "Hey, I think someone needs to take you home."
Iwaizumi swayed a bit before straightening up. He took a deep breath before promptly pushing past Hinata and Bokuto. Instead of going to Oikawa he headed to the front door and walked out. Bokuto cried out, rushing for him. "Drunk man loose!"
