MAY 10, 1978
Remus, Lily, Peter, Marlene and Alice rose to their feet, clapping as the crowd broke out into cheers. The Gryffindor quidditch team flew down to the quidditch pitch, curling James and chanting as he held the golden snitch in his hand.
"He's done it! James Potter has caught the snitch! GRYFFINDOR WINS!" the commentator roared.
Aurora and Sirius jumped off their brooms and tackled James in a big hug as he nuggied his head, "well-done prongs".
James' smile was bigger than Auroras ever seen it. The Ravenclaw quidditch team congratulated the Gryffindors while Sirius invited them to the party the marauders were hosting in the common room in commemoration for winning their very last quidditch game at Hogwarts and the quidditch cup.
Their friends made their way down the pitch, where Lily despite her privacy with displays of affection, kissed James in the middle of the grass, "You did so good" she told him in a tight hug. Aurora watched their encounter so proud of how far their relationship had come, she couldn't have wanted her best friends to end up with anyone else.
Remus approached Aurora smiling, they weren't openly dating nor did they ever show signs of them being together in front of anyone else besides their close friends, "Congratulations Rory" he beamed, shaking her hand. Aurora began to plush at his attempt of being nonchalant. "thank you, Remus," she laughed before winking and heading to the quidditch change rooms, one last time.
Afterwords Aurora found herself walking down the stairs from her dorm room to the common room alongside her dormmates. "do you think they'll have firewhiskey" Aurora asked. Marlene took a bottle out that she had hidden under her shirt as they took the last few steps into the common room that now pounded with music, both muggle and wizard.
The room was filled with Gryffindors along with Hufflepuff's, Ravenclaws and the nice Slytherins from their house quidditch teams. "oh they will" Marlene responded hinting to the bottle of firewhiskey she kept tucked between her arm and she laughed mischievously.
The students danced together, all interhouse rows disappeared for the money being as everyone came together to have a good time. Aurora couldn't be more grateful for that, she always tried her hardest to keep things civil between the Gryffindors and the other houses as there was a war going on just outside the walls of their school and this was a time everyone needed to come together in peace if that war was ever going to end.
"Have you seen James?" Lily yelled over the music,
"Remus told me James and Pete were taking the cloak and sneaking some food back from the kitchens" Aurora yelled back as she scanned the crowd of girls and boys for one specific boy. When she saw his golden-brown hair and tall figure talking to Sirius Black she smiled to herself, feeling complete.
"Tell me again why you two won't make it official?"
Aurora turned to face the ginger girl as she thought back to a couple of months prior.
The warm weather had melted the last of the winter snow and she and Remus sat on the edge of the black lake under the same willow tree they sat under in year two when she promised him she wouldn't judge him for what he was. They shared one of Remus' cigarettes and had a difficult conversation.
"Remus... I need you to answer me and I won't ask ever again-" she exhaled a puff of smoke, while Remus watched her with amazement, he was always breathe taken by her, no matter what she did, whether she smoked his cigarette or laughed at his jokes or even just existed her pure presence was enough to sweep him off his feet, "-what are we?"
She looked into his eyes searching for the truth, he exhaled and looked away from her. He wanted to hold her hand and tell her she was his and someday she would be his wife and the mother of his children but he couldn't. He knew deep down that no matter how much he wanted that life he couldn't have it, it was too dangerous for her or for anyone to get too attached to him. All he could tell himself was that he was a monster and monsters didn't deserve love, but yet looking into her kind, strong eyes he felt like as long as he had her, everything would be okay.
"We're.... friends" he answered, though he was looking away at the lake not wanted to see her expression, he could hear the disappointment in her breathe. He shp=ould have left it at that but he remembered the words she spoke to him all those years ago, in the very same spot. She told him, he wasn't a monster, she told him that he deserved to love and that was enough for him. "friends who-" from the corner of his eye, he saw her eyes fall on him once more, "don't see other people. friends that hold hands and one day stand in front of their other friends and vow to be friends forever". He looked back at her and held her hand in his.
She smiled at him, "I'd like that"
"Lily I told you... we're just friends"
The other rolled her eyes, laughing at how oblivious Aurora was. "Yea and me and my sister get along" she spoke sarcastically.
"what do expect me to march over there and demand he tell the whole crowd that I'm his girlfriend and that we're in love?... cause that's not going to happen"
Lily shook her head, "I don't expect that, but I do expect you two to at least kiss without having to sneak off to some secret passageway"
"wha- how did you?"
Lily laughed again, "James told me about the marauder's map, you buffoon"
Aurora's mouth hung open and she held back a smirk, "your boyfriends a perv, watching us like that"
The two girls began to giggle as they sipped some of Marlene's alcohol. "Fine, fine, I won't guarantee a four verse poem declaring our love but I'll do this-" she said giving Lily her cup as she pushed her way throw the crowd in Remus' direction. She tapped him on the shoulder and when he turned around, she should on her tippytoes and brought him into a deep kiss in front of everyone. The crowd cheered around them until there was a faint "BOOO!!" from James as he entered the common room with his arms full of snacks.
He walked to the table where Lily stood holding their cups, "Did I just walk into the abandoned bathrooms, whys Moony eating Rory's face".
Aurora looked across the room at Lily who gave her a thumbs up and laughed as she turned around the continue talking with James and Peter.
