JULY 11, 1978
Aurora paced the floor of her library, glancing at the book on Horcrux's every few steps. Dumbledore never took longer than overnight to respond to her letters, especially when they had to do with the order. The realization of it now being mid-afternoon with no response didn't sit right with her.
Her stomach began to twist as she wondered if he ever even got the letter. She stopped walking when she reached her desk. Slamming the book cover shut, she called for Mary.
A loud snap echoed the room and the small house elf stood on the desk meeting Auroras eyes.
"Mary!... did you send that letter to Albus Dumbledore?"
Mary moved her tiny feet and sketched closer to Aurora, "Mary sent mistress' letter to Hogwarts last night"
The not in her stomach tightened, she squeezed her eyes shut and huffed as she rubbed her forehead with her hand.
"Mary wonders if mistress is alright?"
"yes, yes-" she straightened her back and once again put the ancient book away and locked it in her desk drawer, "I'm fine I just need to check something with a friend" She assured the elf before leaving the library.
She apparated to the third floor. She impatiently walked the halls to her bedroom and busting the door open. In her closet, she removed a thin black leather jacket and pulled it over her shoulders then unlocked an indestructible chest she held strickly to hold items that she couldn't trust to be left out in the open. Strapped to the chest lid lay the dagger Dumbledore gifted her, she took the blade and slid it into her knee-high boot and watched as any trace of an object in her boot vanished.
With her wand already on her she locked the chest back up and apparated, landing on a staircase. The heels of her shoes clicked on the last of the emerald steps as she walked onto the main floor, the sounds grabbing the attention of her friends.
She stopped in her place and turned to face them and Sirius called out to her,
"OY RORY, where you going?"
She dropped her head and let go of a deep breath, all hopes of being able to sneak out without answering questions gone and she let her feet lead her to them. "I just need to meet with Albus quickly to make sure he received a letter, shouldn't take more than an hour".
"OH, I'll come with you then" James offered, getting up from the couch and kissing Lily on the cheek.
"you really don't have to, it won't take long-"
James scrunched his face and waved his hand, "Rubbish, I've been wanting to go out so its no worries"
Aurora searched her brain trying to find an excuse fast enough without telling him about the Horcrux'. She gave up quickly once she realized there was no point in trying to say no to James Potter once he's made up his mind.
