AURORA'S POV

After my parent's funeral, I returned to my home with my grandmother. there a worker from the minister came to share with me the details of their will. He told me that before my parents passed they had put the manor under my name, making me the legal owner of the house. they also left me all their money and all their possessions really, the ministry worker gave me their key for Gringotts and left afterward.

I spent the summer cleaning out the house of things of my parents that hurt me too much to look at, I never touched their bedroom though. Even though I now owned the house that will always be their room and only their room.

I returned back to Hogwarts for my second year and then my third, spending the holidays there but coming home for the summers, under my grandmother's care. It was nice really, to be around my friends, being with them really helped.

Sirius' brother Regulus came to Hogwarts in my second year. He was sorted into Slytherin which making Sirius look worse than he already did in his parent's eyes. Sirius would tell me his situation at home, he opened up to me about that kind of thing, they all did, Marlene, Lily, James ... Remus.

They all trust me with the things they don't even tell each other, I guess they assume I would be the best person to go to because I know better than any of them what pain felt like. I understand that I'm glad they come to me honestly, I'm glad they trust me because that means I can trust them too.

I don't know if I trust Peter yet though, there's something about him I can't quite put my finger on but it's something. Remus however is perfect, he's so kind and smart, but he's terrible at pretending that things are ok. I figured out his condition in year 2, apparently, he had already told the boys but I won't hold that against him.

I remember the day I confronted him about it so clearly,

It was late spring-early summer 1973. He sat at the lake reading, Sirius and James were off tormenting Severus, Peter probably watching from behind them.

I walked towards the tree he rests his back against "OI Remus, I need to talk to you!"

He sat up and put his book down when he saw it was just me.

"Remus I know why you've been missing classes every month"

"y-you do?" he started to sweat out of nerve

"Yes, I do, why didn't you tell me sooner? "

"b-because I'm a monster Aurora, I didn't want to scare you"

"Remus, you fold your socks, sorry if I'm not exactly trembling at your sight" I laughed (if you've seen that headcanon, your  welcome)

I spoke again " Rem, we all have demons, but if we let them run our lives, they'll consume us... i would never let something like this come between our friendship as I'm sure you would stop be friends with Sirius because he's an outsider in his family or me for practically being an orphan... Your demons don't control you, Remus, don't let them stop you from happiness"

Remus looked at me with sadness, he was so upset with himself for something that wasn't his fault, he didn't say anything back to me but I know he heard me, I know that he would remember my words so I placed my hand on his shoulder, met my eyes with his and gave him a comforting smile, then walked back to the castle.

That was a little over a year ago, it was now the summer before my fourth year. Now i sat in a chair in the waiting room at St. Mungo's hospital.

"Ms. Rose, your grandmother is awake, would you like to say goodbye?"

I nodded and got up, following the mediwizard to my Grandmother's hospital room, Grams is old and fragile, she had taken a fall the day before, I was told she had a heart attack which caused her to fall down the stairs.

I walked into the room, it was morning and the sun's light filled the room completely.

"oh grams, I'm so sorry"

My grandmother slowly raised her shaking hand to cup my cheek,

"you're as beautiful as your mother" she smiled weakly, then lowered her hand slightly to touch the locket around my neck,

"I remember when I... gave your... mother that necklace.... you've made me p..rou.. "

She didn't finish the word when her hand fell from the necklace to hang off the hospital bed, the colour had disappeared from her eyes

I looked at her, my eyes began to water but no tears came, I hadn't cried since my parents funeral. I moved a piece of hair off her face and closed her eyes "goodbye grams".

After that I left the room not wanting to be there anymore, I used the floor network at ST. Mungos to get home.

When I arrived in my living room and let out a breath, I had returned back to my home alone, with no parents, no ministry workers, no living guardians. Usually, that would mean I would have to go to an orphanage but because I was turning 14 in a few days, returning to Hogwarts and the facts that I owned this manor, child support representatives cant takes me away, I wasn't homeless, I have a home and enough money to support myself for the rest of my life.

There had been so much chaos in my life in the past couple of years, I wanted to do something that brought me back to a time where everything was so simple. So I walked the path through my garden that led to this beautiful structure that sat at the edge of the lake. Its been on the property since before I was born, it was a series of cement beams that held up a roof that was painted blue, underneath it was a small bench.

I sat on the bench looking at the water, the morning sunlight glistened on the water making it sparkle, the willow trees beside me flowed softly in the breeze. I stripped myself of my clothes so I was just in my undergarments, then placed my clothes and shoes on the bench before diving into the cool water.

Though it was summer, the water was cold but it was refreshing. I dunked my head under the water once more coming back up for air and wiping the sleepless night I spent waiting for news on my grandmother from my eyes.

I swam in the water thinking back to the memories I have of my dad and I swimming in this lake as my mum sat at the edge of the water with her feet in the lake laughing as she observed us play around.

I smiled to myself before getting out of the water, wringing out my long black hair and putting on my shorts, not bothering with my shoes or top.

when I got back inside my hair had air-dried from the hot summer air. I skipped dinner instead I spent the night packing my luggage to go back to Hogwarts tomorrow. When I finished I got under my covers, feeling then just how exhausted I was as I closed my eyes, drifting off.
