"Why are you calling me?" I tried to stay as calm as I could. I didn't know how to react to this situation.
"I believe you have some explaining to do," He chuckled.
"What do you want from me? Leave me alone," I said. Why do I even have to tell him about his daughter who he let go of? "I don't know, maybe because people are talking about how you come back to Singapore, with a child," He said in a matter of fact tone.
This man was really making me pissed. "Go straight to the point. What would you like me to do? Let's get this over with. I don't want to play games with you," I said in a stern tone.
I didn't want to be involved with him again. The scars were still fresh, I still didn't get an explanation why he did that.
"I'll meet you at your office tomorrow. I will be dropping you off by at ten am. It was lovely talking with you," He said, and I ended the call. Father seemed to notice that my mood changed.
"Who was that Catie?" He asked. "Yukhei, Dad." I replied with a sigh.
"Well, what does he want?"
"He wants to talk to me tomorrow," Good thing that Luna was busy playing with her toys, so she wasn't paying attention to our conversation. "Well, I think that's great, Catie. You should talk about things." Dad said.
We do have to talk about things, but I just didn't want to face reality. I was a coward for running away, and hiding my daughter.
"Would you like to start duty tomorrow, dear? I can get your office ready for you." Dad said. I was actually working as the company's Vice President before I left for Chicago.
My position really didn't change though, since I still worked for my Father even if I was in Chicago. I still signed documents related to the company.
"That would be wonderful, dad." I replied.
Our conversation ended there, as I wanted to take a nap. I was still feeling groggy, due to the jet lag. I felt someone tap my shoulder, and it was Anders.
"Catie, we're here." He said, and I opened my eyes to see our manor. Wow. It's been a while since I last saw this place. There were some changes, but it still looked the same.
"Is Mom home?" I asked Anders, as I was slowly standing up from my seat. "Yes, madame is home. She made lunch for you," He said, and offered me his hand for me to get off the car.
Dad and Luna we're already at the garden, playing. "Oh, sounds good," I said. I really didn't know what to do with my Mom. We are still awkward with each other ever since our fight a few years ago.
I took off my sneakers as soon as I step foot inside. I could feel the cold marble floor and could smell the familiar scent of laksa from the kitchen.
"Catie! Aiyah you're home!" Nana said.
I haven't seen her in a while, and she must have missed me a lot. "Hi Nana, how are you?" I replied as she engulfed me into a bear hug.
"I'm doing good, Catie. How was your flight?" she asked, as she took my coat from me. "It was great, Luna, and I slept most of the time though," I replied, stretching.
"That's good to hear, dear. Now, why don't you go upstairs first and get some rest? I'll call you when dinner's ready." She said. I just nodded and went upstairs to my room. I entered my room, and everything was still the same.
I could also smell the Lavender mist that the housekeepers use to keep the house fresh. I went to my vanity, to sit down and try to freshen up my face a bit. I typed in my code to open my locked jewelry drawer. It was still there.
The ring he gave me. Our wedding ring.
I didn't bring it with me when I went to Chicago. I was starting to tear up again just by looking at it. I slid it down my finger, and surprisingly I missed this feeling where this dainty diamond ring was still on my ring finger.
"Catalina Anne, what are you doing?" I told myself.
I shouldn't be thinking about this right now. I put back the ring in my drawer and locked it. I stood up and went to the bathroom to relax in the bathtub.
I turned on the tap, opened some body wash, and placed my hair in a bun. The water was warm enough for me to step inside the tub, so I gladly went in. My phone buzzed and this is what I saw.
"Lucas Wong and Catalina Chu's daughter spotted today at Changi Airport"
"Catalina Chu, spotted today with daughter at Changi Airport?"
"Catalina Chu's pregnancy was hidden?"
Twitter was blowing up, and worse my daughter's face was in almost every single article. I was beyond pissed. I called my mother's publicist to address this.
"Hello, Sienna?" I said, "Please tell those damn news outlets to take down those photos of me and my daughter at the airport. Now." I said.
"Yes Miss Chu, I'll try my best." I didn't want my daughter in the limelight and that's one of the reasons why I moved to Chicago for a short period of time.
I ended the call with Sienna. My phone buzzed again. Ugh. I literally just got off the airport, and my head's throbbing again. It was from Johnny.
"Hey, princess, you good?" "Hi johnbear, yes I am. I just got home though," I said.
"That's good to hear." He replied. "So how are things with Yukhei?" He said. "I don't know John, I still don't want to talk to him, but he wants to talk tomorrow though," I said with a sigh.
"That's good princess. You guys should talk about things. It's been four years, and I strongly believe that Luna shall meet her father." Johnny said in a teasing voice. "Well, johnbear, just hope that I won't pop off tomorrow.
I got off the bathtub and dried myself. My room's intercom was ringing, so I believe it was time to eat. I got dressed in jeans and a simple top and wore my slides.
I went out of my room after getting dressed and went downstairs. "Luna, have you changed your clothes?" "Yes, mommy. Nana helped me a while ago." She replied, busy playing with her toys.
"Catalina, you're home," I heard a voice. It was my mother, and I saw a familiar figure behind her. I squinted my eyes to take a closer look at the person.
"Hello, Miss Chu or shall I say, Mrs. Wong?" I know that voice very well. What the hell is he doing here? Is he that excited?
