Wong Yukhei
I remember the day when my dad told me that I was going to marry the daughter of Panoramic Enterprises.
Marriage has never crossed my mind by then, since I was only 21, enjoying my life in London. I knew that I couldn't live my life the way I want to, because back home, I had a company to run when I turn 24.
I am now 23 and my father wants to ensure that our bloodline will continue. I really didn't like the thought of arranged marriage.
Marriage is commitment and I just couldn't see myself settling down with someone I barely even know. My parents were arranged also.
It was good at the beginning, they were in love and their marriage was doing well. Until one day, I caught my father cheating with my mother's best friend.
It was something I couldn't forget. I was only eight then, and I didn't know what the words "affair" meant.
My mom knew, of course. She just pretended not to know. She didn't want to have a broken family.
After that incident, my father promised us that he wouldn't do it again. I believed him of course, since he looked so sincere. I
was so naïve to believe that he really meant what he said. When I was 15, I saw him again, with another woman.
After that incident, I told my mother that I wanted to continue my studies abroad. I couldn't bear to see my father cheating on my mother countlessly.
With all these events that I have witnessed, it has embedded a bad impression of marriage to me. There was a sudden knock on my door.
"Come in," The door opened and it was my secretary, Neil.
"Sir, Ms. Chu has arrived. Shall I send her in?" He asked.
"Sure, go ahead." Catalina entered my office.
"Hey, you're here," I said. She looks anxious.
"Hi, do you still have some stuff to do?" She asked.
Her hands are literally shaking. She's trying her very best to conceal her nervousness.
"No. Please review the script sent by my mom's publicist." I said and pointed at the brown folder at the couch.
She looked unpleased.
"Wait, what?"
"Why do we need a script?" she said and opened the folder.
She scoffed. "So you want me to say that we've been seeing each other for over a year and we decided to marry?"
"There's no way I'm going to lie to the people about our engagement. Our relationship is purely business."
"Do you think I wanted this too? Of course not. I didn't want to make a fuss about this. If you don't want to say it then just be there and keep your mouth shut then," I replied.
I also can't understand why I suddenly got mad. I know that our engagement isn't going to be easy.
She acts as if she's the only one not liking this.
I stood up from my chair and took my suit jacket.
"The press con starts in ten minutes at Hall A. I'll go ahead." I said and walked towards the door and left my office
Catalina Anne
I really don't like the idea of making up a story for our engagement. Can't we just come clean and say that this is purely for business?
