"Attention all passengers, we are going to land at Changi Airport in a few minutes. Please fasten your seatbelts." The smooth voice from the intercom said. Finally, I'm almost home. Even though I sort of don't want to be here, I still miss the warm weather here in Singapore.
I got off the plane and went through immigration, and I claimed my luggage. I immediately saw Anders, our family butler waiting outside together with some bodyguards.
"Catalina!" he called.
"Anders, I missed you!" I ran to him and hugged him tight. He was like a father figure to me, since he always took care of me when I was younger.
"How was your flight?" he asked.
"It was good, but I'm really tired." I replied. I am quite dizzy due to the long flight.
"Let's get you home then," he said as he took my luggage and one of the bodyguards opened the car door for me. The drive to our estate was quite long. I enjoyed the wonderful view of my hometown. It's been quite a while since I have been home.
I think the last time I was here was 2 or 3 years ago? Anyways, after 45 minutes, we finally reached home. I got off the car and entered the manor.
"Kitty!" Nana called.
"Nana! I missed you!" I replied. Nana has been my nanny since I was three. She has stayed in our family for almost two decades.
"How's London? Aiyah! You look so skinny. I will make you dinner first, what would you like?" She asked.
"London's great, Nana. I would like some congee please," I replied. "Okay, I will make some. Go up first and freshen up, I will call you when it's ready." Nana said.
I made my way up the staircase and went inside my room. My room still hasn't changed since I asked my Mom to just let it be. My clothes are still in my walk-in closet. Everything was in place. I walked towards my bed and I saw a bouquet of white roses with a card. I love white roses.
"Welcome back, Princess. -J.S." the card read. I knew immediately who this bouquet is from, its from my childhood best friend, Johnny. He sends me flowers every time I come back home. He knows I love them. I picked up the bouquet and smelled the roses. They smell amazing. I fished my phone inside my purse and called him.
"Hey, princess" his smooth voice greeted me.
"Hi Johnny, I got your bouquet, thank you so much." I chirped.
"You're welcome, princess. How was your flight?" He asked. If you're wondering why he calls me princess, it is because when we were five, I asked him to call me princess since I always wanted to be a princess.
"It was good, although I almost got into a fight just for a tuna sandwich." I said. I still couldn't forget that guy's face.
"What? Are you serious?" He chuckled.
"Kitty, your congee is ready!" I heard Nana called me.
"Coming, Nana!" I replied.
"Oh, are you going to have dinner? Let's just talk later then," He said.
"No, it's fine. You could keep me company though," I said. I really don't like eating alone though.
"Do you want to FaceTime instead? I want to see your face." He suggested.
"Sure." I said and ended the call. After a few minutes, Johnny was calling me via FaceTime already. So, I took my laptop and sat down at the dining area with my congee.
I was in the middle of our FaceTime when Anders told me that my parents were home already.
"So, one time I went shopping at Gucci, I saw this guy, he looks familiar though," I told Johnny.
"What do you mean familiar?" Johnny asked.
"He looks like he went to our middle school," I said.
"Why? Do you find him cute?" Johnny asked while raising his eyebrows.
"No, of course not, I told you that I don't want to have crushes again!" I said while laughing.
"Catie, I want you to meet someone," I heard my father's voice. My head immediately popped out of my laptop's screen.
"Talk to you later John, my dad's here." I closed my laptop after saying that.
"Yes, Father?" I said looking at him. My dad and I don't have a very good relationship ever since what he did to me when I was in middle school.
"You have a guest in the living room. He is waiting for you with your mother," He replied in a monotone. I stood up from my seat and placed my phone in my pocket as I walked into the living room. I saw a very bulky figure sitting at the sofa.
"Wong Yukhei, I want you to meet my daughter, Catalina Anne." My dad said. He turned around and I didn't expect what happened next.
"You?! What are you doing here?!" I was very surprised and pissed at the same time. I still couldn't forget what he did at the airport. He also looked shocked when he saw my face.
"Catie, that is no way to speak to your fiancé." My mom said.
"So, is this the reason why, you wanted me to come home?! To marry me off?!" I didn't mean to raise my voice, but I am so pissed right now. How could they arrange me with a man I barely even know.
"Catie, I know it's all of a sudden, but your mother and I are getting old and we wanted you to settle and have a good future," My dad calmly said.
I scoffed. "What about Marcus then? Wasn't he enough?!" I actually can't believe I said that. I really don't want to bring up the past, but it was just so sudden.
"Marcus is a Ma, and I do not want you to be associated with his family in anyway shape or form. Do I have to repeat myself?!" My dad raised his voice at me.
Well, what's new? It's always like this. "You know what, why don't you marry him if you like him that much? I shouldn't have come home." I yelled and walked out of the living room.
I sort of regret coming home. It is my first day here and it's already messed up.
