TW: This chapter mentions PTSD and anxiety.
Catalina Anne
"I won't, I promise. I'll take care of you and your Mommy now,"
Lies. I thought to myself. I just kept my composure. "Luna, I was supposed to take you out to dinner tonight, but sadly you got sick,"
"Is there anything you want to eat?" He said, sitting beside her. I was happy for her, she has finally met her father.
"I want eggsicles, Daddy," she replied. Yukhei looked confused.
"I don't think I've ever heard of that, my dear," He said while touching the back of his neck.
"Mommy, can you please make them for me?"
"I would love to, my dear, but mommy can't cook right now. Mommy has to stay here and take care of you first." I replied, and she looked sad.
"How about I get you some dim sum, Luna? Will that be alright?" Yukhei said.
"Okay, then." Luna replied. Yukhei called his secretary to order us food.
"Hello, Neil, please order us some dim sum, and deliver them here at Concord," I heard him say. So he still works with Neil, I thought. "And can you please tell me what on earth are eggsicles?" He said and it made me laugh, and he looked at me. He ended the call and looked at me.
"Why are you laughing? It was a genuine question," he said. "
It's a treat that Mommy makes for me, Daddy. She makes it when I do good or when I'm sick," Luna answered her father.
"Ah, I get it," he said. "Mommy, when we leave here, can you make Daddy and I some eggsicles? So Daddy can try my favorite snack!" Luna said with a big smile on her face.
"Yes, I'll make them, soon baby." I replied. Johnny finally came back. "Hey, have you eaten?" he asked.
"I haven't. I'll eat later," I replied. "I know you don't eat a lot for lunch, Catalina. What food would you like?" Johnny said, pulling his phone out of his pocket. He knows my habit of skipping meals and he isn't fond of it.
"I already asked Neil to bring you food, Catie," Yukhei said.
It's been a long time since he called me that. I didn't know how to respond. "Well, that's good to hear. I'll leave for now then," Johnny said and stood up.
"I still have some work to finish, I'll come again tomorrow,"
"Yeah, I'll see you." I said and he left.
"Mother is coming to visit," Yukhei said suddenly. "What? Now?" I replied, trying to hide the panic. I haven't seen her in a long time and let's admit, it's going to be awkward.
"Yes, now. She says she wants to meet her granddaughter," He replied. I just nodded in reply. It was her right to see Luna, after all. My phone started ringing and it was Jaehyun, and I picked it up.
"Hello?" I said. "Hey Catie, just wanted to speak with my baby," He said. "I'm sorry but she's not feeling too well," I replied.
"I'm at the hospital," "Is it that bad? How is she?" He asked, obviously panicked.
"No, the doctor said it's just fatigue, she just needs to finish a bag of IV," I replied. "Oh, that's good to hear. I guess I'll call you back then?" He said.
"Yep, you def should," I replied and ended the call. Yukhei was going to say something when the door opened. It was his mother.
"Catalina, it's been a while," she said and I immediately stood up, and greeted her. "It has been a while, Auntie." I replied.
I didn't know how to address her. "Oh please my dear, you don't have to be so stiff," she said and smiled at me. Even though I really didn't get to know who she really is, I knew that Yukhei's mom is a good person.
"Luna, this your grandma," Yukhei said to her. Luna just looked at her, confused. "Hello, my dear, I'm so happy to meet you," Yukhei's mom said.
"Hi, nana" Luna replied, shy. "She's just shy, Auntie. She'll warm up to you soon," I said to reassure her.
"I'll go down first, to meet Neil." Yukhei said and excused himself. It was me and Yukhei's mom inside the room, and it was very awkward. Luna fell asleep afterward as Auntie and I began chatting.
"How are things for you, Catalina?" she asked. "Doing well, I just bought my first house," I said proudly. "That's good to hear, dear." She replied.
"I wanted to ask for your forgiveness, Catalina. For not turning in your divorce paper--" she said, and I cut her off. "You have nothing to say sorry for Auntie. This is all my mother's fault, I knew it was her decision," I replied and gave her a small smile.
I didn't want to drag her in the mess my mother created. "I also, would like to ask for forgiveness, I hid your grandchild, not only from you but from your son as well," I said as I looked at her in the eye.
"You don't have to feel sorry Catalina. Both of you were so young, you made decisions that weren't the best, but what's important now, is that Yukhei is present in Luna's life, right?" she said as she held my hand. I just smiled at her. I didn't know what to do.
"Let me tell you something, my dear. I know for a fact that my boy still loves you. He was distraught when you left, drinking nonstop and it even reached the point my husband threatened to fire him from the company if he couldn't pull himself together. He was diagnosed with PTSD, and has suffered a lot of anxiety," she said.
I wanted to cry right there. It was hard, not only for me but for both of us. "I'm not saying this, so that you would get back together, with him, but think about my dear, hmm?" she said and caressed my face.
"I shall take my leave now, okay? Please tell Yukhei to call me," she said, and took her purse, and stood up.
"Have a lovely evening," I said and she finally left. I broke down. I was stressed, overthinking about what we both went through.
It hurts, knowing the fact that Yukhei was also in a lot of pain, and I couldn't do anything for him. When I was pregnant with Luna, I wasn't alone, I had Johnny and Jaehyun. But what about him? Was I too selfish to hide his own daughter from him?
A lot of thoughts were running inside my head. The door opened, and it revealed him, holding two bags of dim sum. I wiped my tears with the back of my hand, trying to compose myself.
"Are you crying?" he said as he placed the food down the table.
"Did my mother say anything perhaps?"
