After planning for our engagement party, I asked Yukhei if we could go to NUS (National University of Singapore), because I wanted to enroll for the next semester since I am no longer going to study in London.
As soon as we got there I immediately went to the registrar's office. I filled in the application forms and I enrolled myself. "Hi, sorry to ask but where is Room 23-AD?" A cute man suddenly approached me.
"Hello, I'm sorry I can't help you with that, I just enrolled myself here," I said as I flashed him an apologetic smile. "Oh really? What course are you in?" "BS Psychology Minor in Business, how about you?"
"Oh, we're on the same course! I'm Jeong Jaehyun. but you can call me Jeffrey," He said. "Are you the Jeong Group's--" Before I could even finish what I was saying he immediately replied. "Yes, I am, but I like to keep it lowkey. And you are?"
"I'm Catalina Chu, it's a pleasure to meet you," "Oh, Panoramic Enterprises," He said. I just nodded my head. "Miss Chu, here are your papers. You may claim your books on Monday." the old lady said, causing me to turn around.
I accepted the papers and thanked her. "Well, I have to get going now. See you around, Jeff." I said. "See you too," He said. I started walking towards the lobby where Yukhei was waiting for me. "You all good?" He asked.
"Yep, I am. Can we pass by the mall to buy some school supplies?" "Sure, then we could get dinner after," He said as we headed to the parking lot. We got in his car and he started driving. "Hey, what do you know about the Jeong Group?" I asked. "
They own hotels, buildings and condominiums. Why do you ask?" He replied. "Nothing, I just met their heir inside. Their foreign right?" I said again. Yukhei was so focused on driving. "Well, basically they are but the chairman's wife is from Singapore so I guess they aren't? I really don't know much about them since they keep a low profile." He replied.
After our short conversation, I just connected my phone to blue tooth so that I could play music. We finally arrived at the mall and I went inside the bookstore to look for the supplies that I needed. Shortly after shopping for my supplies, Yukhei and I had our dinner.
We entered a fancy Italian resto since he was craving pasta. We both ordered spaghetti bolognese. "Hey, do you mind if I ask you a question?" Yukhei said. "Sure, go ahead," I said as I picked up my glass to take a sip of wine. "How many kids do you want?" He casually asked. I choked on my wine, which made him concerned.
"Kids?" I said. "Why? Don't you want any?" He said, with a hint of disappointment in his eyes. "I don't know, Xuxi. We're still young and I don't even have my degree yet." I said. "Yeah, I know. But just like in the future, how many kids do you want?" "Probably two? I don't want him or her to grow up alone. That would be sad."
Present Day
I have been reminiscing our memories. The day he chose us over his damn company. I already finished college and have a simple life here in Chicago with my daughter, Luna. It's been four years since he left us.
It was painful of course, but I had to face the reality of being married to one of the most influential and powerful businessmen in the world. "Mommy, can we go to Crystal's?" My baby girl asked.
I was in the kitchen doing the dishes since we just finished eating lunch. "I don't think so baby, I have my shift at the café today." I replied. If you're wondering why I'm here in Chicago, that's because I chose to give birth here. Johnny has been very supportive. He was with me, during the whole process.
I am also planning to return to Singapore when Luna turns four. "But, mommy you promised me," Luna started whining. "Okay fine, baby. I'll ask Auntie Jennie to pick you up at the café but you have to promise me to behave, okay?" I replied and walked towards the living room. "Yay, thank you, mommy!" Luna replied.
I really can't imagine my world without her. "Ok, now go pick your clothes, and let's get you dressed," I replied. Luna immediately skipped towards her room to pick her clothes out. We live in my three-bedroom apartment, it's not that big but it is perfect for both of us. I also went to my room to prepare for my shift at the café.
I work at the café on Thursdays and Fridays. I took out a simple grey turtleneck, and I paired it with black ripped jeans, with my sneakers. After getting dressed, I went to Luna's room to check up on her. She already selected a pink unicorn shirt and teal leggings. I helped her get dressed, and we were ready to go. We got inside my car and I drove all the way to the café.
As soon as we got there, I went inside the pantry to get my apron and I let Luna sit inside. I took out her iPad to let her watch some shows since Jennie is going to pick her up in an hour for her playdate with Crystal. "Just stay here, baby. Aunt Jennie, will pick you up in an hour, okay?" I said. "Yes, mommy." She replied, busy watching Peppa Pig on her iPad.
I kissed her head before heading to the front at the cashier waiting for customers to order. "Hi Dylan, what can I get you?" I said as I saw my usual customer arrive. Dylan was a freshman in college majoring in fine arts. "Hey, Cat. the usual coffee and cheesecake please," He said. "Okay, that will be $ 5.99" I replied. He took out his card and I swiped it in the machine. He looked for a place to sit at I prepared his order.
As I was working on his order, I heard the door open, which means there is a customer. I quickly finished up Dylan's order before going to the register. "Hi, welcome to Cloud Café what can I get you?" I said as I wiped my hand in my apron. I looked up and I immediately froze. The man that I have been hiding from for almost four years is now in front of me ordering at the café I work in. My hands were suddenly cold, and I couldn't move even a single inch.
"Mommy, mommy!" I heard Luna calling me. She went outside the pantry. "Mommy, my iPad's dead," she said as she tugged at my apron. "Luna, let's talk later, okay? Mommy's busy." I said as I patted her head. His eyes immediately turned to Luna's.
He must be wondering why I have a daughter now. Luna immediately understood what I meant and went back inside. "Sorry, what can I get you sir?" I asked as I try my best to act as if I don't care about him. "H-hhow are you?" He asked. Before I could answer, the door suddenly opened and Jaehyun appeared.
"Hey, Cat, where's my baby?" I really couldn't believe what was happening. Lucas scoffed as soon as he heard Jaehyun's voice. They really didn't get along. Jaehyun just stared at Lucas as if he was his prey.
Jaehyun waved his hands in front of my face which brought me back to earth. "Cat, where's Luna?" "Huh? Oh, Luna's at the back. Please take her to Jennie's." I replied. He immediately went to the back and picked up Luna.
I took a moment to compose myself before speaking to Lucas again. "I'm sorry, sir. What would you like?"
"Iced cappuccino and a tuna sandwich," He replied.
I suddenly remembered something. I swallowed hard and smiled at him as if nothing was wrong. "That would be $ 7.50, sir." I said. He took out his card and I swiped it in the register. "Your order will be served shortly," I said as I walked towards the kitchen to start working on his order.
"Wait, you haven't answered my question yet. How are you?" He said. "I don't think you should be asking me that. I'm working," I said as I turned around to start brewing the coffee. I didn't want to look at his face. It still hurts.
The scars are still fresh.
