"I can't believe the fire alarm went off for no reason," Wonho grumbled on the drive home.
"Yeah, that was crazy," I replied, clutching tightly onto my Hermes bag. I was worried that, at any second, the information I had hidden inside would be exposed. My heart was still racing from the theft I just committed. Thankfully, Dr. Kim was none-the-wiser.
"But at least everything is healed now," he sighed. "I don't have to carry you around anymore."
"Thankfully," I chuckled.
Wonho pouted, "I liked it, though."
I sort of liked it too, even though it was patronizing. When Wonho carried me, I felt dainty and small. In his arms, I felt protected, all of my fears and worries disappeared. But the freedom of being able to walk around was greatly missed.
Plus, I missed wearing fancy shoes and leaving the penthouse.
"At least I know I'll carry you again on our wedding day," he said.
I smiled, thinking of being in Wonho's arms, dressed in a stunning white dress. It would be a dream.
'Speaking of which...'
"When are we going to plan the wedding?" I asked. Wonho seemed surprised by the sudden question, so I backpedaled. "I mean, since we said we were going to get married in the winter, I-"
"We could start scheduling it right now," he replied quickly. "I'm ready to marry you any day."
I looked over at Wonho, studying his profile. His sincerity was evident in his eyes. He really meant it.
So what were we beating around the bush for?
"What about the first full moon in Winter?" I suggested.
Wonho looked confused. Then he started chuckling, "What? Are we werewolves or something?"
"No!" I replied, "I just..." I glanced out the car window, at the moon that was still sort of visible in the sky. "I always loved the moon. It's always pretty. Plus, a full moon has to mean something, right?"
"We can make it mean whatever we want," he smiled. "So then, it's been decided!" Wonho proclaimed, "We'll be getting married on the first full moon of winter!"
After a beat, Wonho and I both burst into laughter.
"That sounds medieval as fuck," I said between wheezes.
"It does," he nodded, wiping away a tear. "But at least we'll have a set date now."
Wonho took one hand off the steering wheel, reaching out to hold mine. We drove in silence.
A couple of songs passed before he uttered, "I can't wait to marry you."
My heart skipped a beat at those words.
"You know, I never thought I'd get married," he chuckled. "The concept always seemed so fake to me. Weddings are just a way to showboat around everyone, to prove the validity of a relationship that might secretly be falling apart. The whole thing stems from the sexist idea that women are property to be handed down from one man to another. But," the side of his mouth turned up, "now I get it. Weddings aren't about anyone else, but us. You and I. And love."
Wonho dropped me off at the penthouse and left to go back to the office. As per usual, there was urgent work to be done at the Elite Entertainment Management building. The privacy was greatly appreciated. I wanted to be able to scour these stolen documents without Wonho potentially walking in.
"Now, let's start digging." I said to myself, taking the papers out of my one-of-a-kind purse.
The documents ranged from freshly printed, to years old. There was an array of perfectly white pages, and others that were yellowed by time. I could see rings from cups of coffee or tea.
