"Honey, someone's here to see you."
My mom peeked her head into the room, a smile on her face. She thought I was sick, and left me alone to wallow in self pity for the majority of the day.
"What?" I asked, sitting up.
"This very handsome boy is here to see you," My mom winked at me, "He's outside."
"Oh... okay," I replied. I had a feeling it was just Jackson or Mark coming to mess with me more.
I sat up, fixing my hair. I was in pajamas, but didn't have the energy to change into anything better. Whoever was here to see me, would have to come see me at my worst.
I trudged to the front door, opening it slowly.
It was Shownu, dressed in his school uniform.
I let out a sigh of relief, running to him. Shownu opened his arms to him, pulling me into a hug. But this problem, his hugs couldn't fix.
The tears started again, Shownu patting my head.
"I'm sorry," he muttered, "This is all my fault."
I shook my head.
"No, no, this isn't your fault," I replied quickly, "Whoever did this is at fault."
"I know, I just..." Shownu's voice trailed off.
He stared off into nothingness. Shownu must have had a hard day today, too. I imagined he dealt with a lot of alienation and teasing.
"I should have been more careful. I knew everyone would be cruel if they found out," Shownu sighed.
"What should we do?" I asked, pulling away from the hug.
"I... I don't know," Shownu replied, patting my head. "But we can get through this, I know we can."
"Can we?" I asked meekly, "We don't have to break up?"
Shownu shook his head vigorously, "No! Of course not!"
I let out a sigh of relief. This whole day, I thought our relationship was done for. I was so happy it wasn't.
"Whoever did this...," Shownu continued, "We can't let them to win."
"You're right," I muttered, feeling empowered.
Whatever asshole outed us like this probably wanted us to break up. I wouldn't let that happen.
"The best thing you can do is go to school with your head held high," Shownu smiled at me, "So, make sure you come to school tomorrow, okay?"
I nodded, tears pricking at my eyes again. But now, it wasn't because I was afraid we would break up. It was because I'm happy that we weren't.
Shownu put a hand on my shoulder, staring deeply into my eyes.
"It's us against the world now," he said, "No one wants us to be together. But we'll make it through this, you and I."
"We can do this," I muttered, nodding vigorously.
"Yes, we can."
I couldn't sleep that night, my heart racing the whole time. I knew that Shownu had my back at school, but that didn't stop my worrying. Both of my hands were now bandaged, and my heart hurt from my classmate's harsh words.
