"The healing is moving along quickly, I think you should only have to keep on the cast for two weeks." Dr. Cho smiled at me after delivering the terrible news.
'Two more weeks of this bullshit?' I groaned internally.
Now that I was forbidden from walking, I started to realize just how much I missed it. My legs, no matter how lame, served an amazing purpose. It was even worse now because I wouldn't be able to walk freely for two weeks...
"When is she going to be able to wear heels again?" Minhyuk suddenly asked.
The Dr. Cho was taken aback, turning to him in confusion. "H-heels?"
Minhyuk nodded. "It's part of her aesthetic..." There was a pause of awkward silence. Minhyuk could tell that the doctor was confused, adding. "Like how your aesthetic is..." He gestured to the Dr. Cho's white coat, "whatever this is."
"Umm." the doctor glanced down at his clothes before replying. "It's going to be a good couple of months before she can comfortably walk in heels."
"Months?" I asked, "Do I have to spend all that time here?"
Dr. Cho was relieved that I was asking a legitimate question. He shook his head. "All of the tests and monitoring will be complete in a couple of days. You'll be free to be discharged then."
That gave me some relief.
"How many casts is she going to need?" Minhyuk asked.
"Only three."
"Only!?" I asked in shock.
One cast was already one too many. Three was far worse.
"Yes," Dr. Cho replied. He pulled up a diagram, pointing to it to show me everything. "You have two fractures on your right leg. They're coming along nicely, but will need a cast for a few weeks." He pointed to the diagram's arm, "And you have one break in your wrist. Luckily your non-dominant hand..." He tucked the clipboard under his arm, adding, "The nurses will be in soon to apply the casts.
I forced a smile, "Great."
"Do you at least have designer brand casts?" Minhyuk asked.
The Dr. Cho turned and walked away, not entertaining him with an answer.
"Fendi? Louis Vuitton?" Minhyuk called after him. "Not even Michael Kors?" When the door closed behind Dr. Moon, Minhyuk let out a huff. "The customer service in this place is terrible." He turned to me, looking devastated. "I'm so sorry, girl. You're going to look horrendous. This is going to be an absolute fashion crime..."
Minhyuk took a moment to stare off into nothingness, horrified. You'd have thought he saw a ghost. But he was just imagining how terrible I'd look in the casts.
"You won't even be able to wear skinny jeans," he muttered, shaking his head.
"It's okay, I'm Gen Z. I don't even like skinny jeans that much," I replied.
Suddenly Minhyuk had an epiphany. He smiled, raising a hand in triumph. "I know! I've got just the thing to fix this." He grabbed his coat, throwing it on, "I'll be right back."
With that, he left the room.
As I suspected, the casts fucking sucked. They were stiff and restrictive. Most importantly, they were extremely uncomfortable. The cast on my knee was especially bad, because it forced my leg to remain straight. Whenever the back of my knee itched, it was impossible to scratch. Fortunately, my left leg was free of any casts, so I could bend and move it freely.
