44 the dream

Her eyes are fixed on the ceiling, the troubles of last night are keeping her awake. There are still the voices and sounds of Force sensitives all around her head, but she has now learned to forget them. She will find the time, she knows it. Maybe time isn't enough for her. It's also strength she needs. She will have the strength to take the ship again and come back with an enormous number of people. Rey remembers the countless days on Jakku, how lonely and incomplete she felt. Now, well, it feels like a part of herself is gone. Ripped off her. And no call, discussion, no touch will ever make her feel whole again. No one will be able to light her heart again like Ben did. Will she ever build a family if the only person she wanted to start one has passed?
"Ben," slips out of her mouth. She lifts up her head to see if he comes, but the room is still empty. The moon is the only thing illuminating, pale and white. Rey would love to enjoy some silence and peace, but the hum of the people in her head don't stop. When will she be able to rest properly? Years and years, she will have to train the Jedis and the new ones that can arrive monthly. When she's old with crease all over her face, is that when she'll have peace? Sometimes, Rey would love to turn off all her responsibilities to only be with herself. The Palpatine that she is. She thought that knowing her origins would make her feel better – or worse, in this case – but it didn't. She was and still is who she is. Because people are not destined to be someone, not judged by their families or mistakes. We are who we choose to be. And Rey chose to be a on the Light Side over everything. With being a Palpatine in addition. And that is who she is. Rey realises that there is something else. Regrets. All those times when she met Kylo Ren, she insulted him and never took the time to listen to him. And he? He was soft and calm, wanting her to stay with him. He didn't care about what side, it was just her. She wishes she had shown her love to him even more. He would've needed it so much. Loneliness had him as a victim as well. The Force brought these two people together, forming a bond, a dyad. Nothing could tear them apart. Something did. Death. Death, she repeats in her head. He's dead. She still can't realise or accept that thought. He couldn't be. She would never let him sacrifice himself for her. Who knows where she would be right now if he wouldn't have died. Maybe already training some Jedis. The pillow under her head gets wet. All those things that could've been. They will never happen. She cries once more, in the heart of the night so none can notice her pain. She doesn't know yet that her dreams will provide her the solution.
Rey wakes up in the middle of the night. Sweat forms in her forehead, her eyes are wide opened. She still sees the Jedi Temple on Yavin IV, like imprinted behind her eyelids and all the walls, ceilings, objects, in the dark. Shana who looks much older, with her tall and curved body. Rey sees the moment where all the Jedis turned their lightsabers on. There, in the back of the room, with a red lightsaber, a tall man, long brown hair, green eyes who shone towards her. Yugantar. Plus a little beard. In the future. So it is, she was right. This vision must be from the Future. But why would the Force randomly show her this? Why would it help her? Confusion was more spread than any kind of guidance. However the rumours were created, they leaded to this planet and this vision. She throws the blanket of her body, takes her lightsaber from under the mattress and leaves her room without minding not to be in proper clothes. BB-8 is awake in the control room, transferring all the camera transmissions into his software. He is on the night shift. All the hallways have cameras because with all the ex-Imperialists there might be some violence.
"Please come with me," Rey begs. "I can't go alone."
Loyal to his friend, he approves. Some guards protect the ships, but Rey has free passage of leaving. Obviously taking the Millennium Falcon, they take off. In hyper space, Rey tries to calm down. Her heart feels like a beast in her chest, wanting to escape. She remembers how she always wondered where she knew Yugantar's face from. Her subconsciousness showed it to her in this dream. Impulsively, she decides to go there. In a few seconds she knows what she will do. Closer landing to the Jedi Temple this time, Rey and BB-8 enter the pyramid. It's also night on Yavin IV, but the planet Yavin is lightning the forests and architectures. The place seems as dead as last time. The Tie Fighter still stands there, covered in dust. Little animals crawl in the darkness, like nature overtook the Temple.
Shana's voice appears. "Who are you?" she asks with a much deeper voice.
Rey steps closer to where the voice comes from. There is no light shining in her eyes this time. "I am Rey, I think you should know me and you might let me in."
"And BB-8 is your little friend, right?"
"Exactly. I can only hear you, but I don't really see."
Her eyes maybe adjust to darkness very fast, but this time, she is still unable to distinguish anything. It might be an effect of the vision or this place is really somber. As she turns her head, she sees the outside, the gas giant and other moons orbiting around it. But nothing of this light penetrates the entry of the Temple. Suddenly, Rey hears the sound of a lightsaber turning on. Shana has a yellow lightsaber, using it to light up the place. It used to be a parking for ships, but is a parking when there are no ships? Rey thinks that she could've landed there immediately. The door that should lead to the bar is behind Shana. She is in her brown gown, the one she also has in the present. Her head is hidden under the hood, but she takes it off as they walk to the door. Still with a burn on her face that the present Shana doesn't have, she is as beautiful as ever. The perfect lines of her mouth, nose, eyes form an angelic face. Somehow the character that Rey now knows doesn't fit to her face at all. Seeing her, you would expect that she is kind, brave, caring and soft. But Shana is funny, full of energy, raw and elegant at the same time. She opens the door and the bar shows, with seemingly dead people since they are not moving any body part. With a snap, music starts playing, drinks are served, discussions start, games are played. Rey notices that she wouldn't organise a Jedi Temple with a bar as a main hall. She looks through the crowd of people. In this room with stuffy air, there are Jedis of all seize and provenance, different places from all the galaxy. It's the hugest diversity Rey has ever seen. When usually, a room like that would turn into a fight, the Force brings them together, in peace. Hope fills Rey in every part of her body unlike she has ever felt, though the uncomfortable feeling still submerges her. Sitting on a high chair with two other people, a man plays cards with two others. The long hair falls behind his back and the head turns to the guest. His green eyes look back to Rey who can't stop fixing him. The beard has grown and the usual softness in his eyes turned into hostility. His neighbour indicates him with a tap on his shoulder that it is his turn. For a few more seconds he stares at Rey and then concentrates on his game again. Rey gasps because she stoped breathing all this time. Shana has taken one of her weird sticks and starts smoking it. Rey pulls herself together and tries to focus on why she came here. A feeling is overwhelming her. Insecurity? Scare? She doesn't know, but she remarks that she just doesn't feel safe. Every second that she spends here is a burden, a weight when she breathes. She wants to get out of here as fast as possible.
"I'd like to see who is in charge here," Rey finally says to Shana.
"Of course, follow me." She stubs out her glowing stick on a table and moves to the bar. She turns around to land behind the bar. There is a button, she pushes it. Tapping with her feet, she waits for the lift to open the doors. Shana lets the guests come in first and then enters. The lift is so fast that Rey sees black in front of her eyes. In a few seconds, they were on the top floor. A white hall opens up to them with narrow corridors. It reminds Rey of Kylo Ren's quarters where the bond connected them, she was there, he was on Kijimi. Shana leads them from corridor to corridor in a labyrinth leading to one door. White as well.
"They are waiting for you. You can open the door whenever you are ready," Shana declares.
A cold shiver runs down Rey's spine. She wants to stay at his door and that, what she will find behind this door, never happens, but at the same time, she just wants to get out of here. BB-8 stands next to her, still, feeling her worry and hesitation. She must open that door, but now? Must it be now? Is she strong enough to see it, is she ready? She might never be. Rey turns the handle down and opens the door abruptly.
