"Honey we're leaving!" My mother called from downstairs.
"Alright! Bye! Love you!" I yelled back.
When I heard the front door close, I shot out of my room and across the hall, where I found Adam sitting on the bed fumbling with his phone.
"Sorry I made you wait so long." I apologized.
"It's cool. So what was the point of me hiding under the bed?" He asked with a smirk as he locked his phone.
Yeah, why did I do that? It's not like they were going to say 'Hey honey. We're home. I'm going to check the guest room for boys!'
I mentally facepalmed myself for being so hysterical.
"I don't know. I panicked." I said as I placed my palm to my head.
"It's okay. But if you wanted to touch my butt THAT badly then-"
"-Can we NOT talk about that?" I cut him off. He just laughed and stood up from the bed.
"Where did your parents go?"
"Church."
"My... Church?" He asked nervously and I nodded in response.
"Oh God, Adam you have no idea how worried I am." I said and ran a few fingers through my tangled hair.
"Don't freak out. My Dad probably won't even talk to them. Your parents usually sit in the back anyways." He tried comforting me. It's almost like he read my mind. He must be a bit worried too.
"Okay... Whatever. What are we going to do? I didn't know they'd be back this early. Where are you going to go? Or sleep?" I ranted frantically as I paced back and forth along the floor. "I mean I can't just leave you in the streets!"
"Ann, Ann, calm down." He hushed and stopped me in my tracks by grasping onto my shoulders.
"I mean if I would've know that my parents were back I-" I began but was cut off by him putting a hand over my mouth.
"You worry too much. There's only one easy way out of this." He said then removed his hand.
"Which would be...?"
"I'm going to talk to my Dad and Laura."
"But Adam-"
"It's the only thing we can do." I chose not to say anything and clenched my jaw shut. He was right.
I nodded and hung my head in shame. It hurt me that I couldn't get him out of this, considering he's it me out of so much trouble lately.
"Ann, please cheer up." Adam begged.
"I'm fine." I said and cracked a small smile.
"Good. So what do you want to do? Go to Denny's?"
"Yeah I'm in the mood for some greasy breakfast." I agreed.
"Okay well go get dressed and whatever girly stuff you have to do," He started and rolled my eyes, "Then I'll go home and put on some different clothes then we'll go."
I nodded and walked across the hallway to my room. I opened my dresser and pulled out some clothes. When I was about to close the drawer, I noticed something. I looked down and saw something buried underneath a pile of unfolded clothes that had been tossed around but never used. I grabbed the slightly heavy object and pulled it from the mess of clothing.
The familiar smooth leather was soft against my skin. The pages were golden on the sides and a red string was tucked in -between the pages as a bookmark. On the front in fancy golden letters it read, "The Holy Bible King James Version".
