"Well, it is broken." Dr. Walsh stated as he hung X-Rays of my crippled wrist on a light thingy ma-bob. "I'm going to put you in a soft cast and give you a sling. And in a few days you can come back and get the hard cast on."
I nodded as I looked down at my swollen wrist. The swelling had gone down, but it still hurt like crazy.
"So how did this happen?" The doctor asked and I froze. What should I say? I mean, I can't say 'oh my ex punched me in the nose then shoved me into a ditch'!
"Uh... She fell. In the church parking lot. Tonight was youth service...It was slippery from the rain and yeah.. she fell." Adam lied.
"Is that true?" Dr. Walsh asked, diverting his gaze to me.
"Uh yeah. Basically." I said and gave him a half-smile.
"Alright then. And when your parents get back from... a business trip you said?" He asked and I nodded. "Well when your parents get back maybe we can hook you up with the pain relievers if the pain gets serious."
I nodded and looked up to Adam, who seemed to be staring off into space as he thought. He seemed... distracted.
"Alright. Let's go wrap you up."

Finally, I was on my way home. All I wanted to do now was SLEEP. But grr. School tomorrow. You know what? I won't go. I excuse myself for injury. Yeah. That's right. My parents aren't here to tell me to go to school so why not? Plus it's the last tday of school before Christmas break. And I'm pretty sure I don't want to face the school with a crippled wrist in a sling.
I looked over to Adam who was concentrating on the road. He seemed kind of distracted ever since we left the hospital. I wish I could read his mind to see what was bothering him.
"Are you okay?" Adam asked fervently, breaking the cold silence.
"I'm fine." I said reassuringly.
"Does it hurt?"
"Sort of I guess..."
Then BAM. Another silence. Car rides with boys I barely knew and who try to force religion on me are not my forte...
Before I could think of what to say, Adam stopped the car.
"We're here."
When I reached for the handle, he stopped me. He got out of the car, went around, and opened the door for me. That's sweet of him.
I muttered a simple 'Thanks' and started to walk up my driveway.
"Wait, Ann." He stopped me again by grabbing my upper arm.
After clearing my throat, I spoke, "Yeah?"
He stared right into my eyes deeply. I never noticed how blue his eyes were. They were light blue on the outside but got darker as they neared his pupil.
"Do you um... need anything else?" He asked softly. I shook my head. "You sure? I can always run to the store or some-"
"I'm fine. But thanks." I said and released myself from his gentle grip.
"Okay.. well... Goodnight." He said and put his hands in his pockets and shrugged his shoulders.
"Goodnight." I whispered and waved a little with my fingers.
He waved back and watched me walk down my driveway. He made sure I got into my house safely before getting in his car and driving off.
I stumbled my sleepy self up the stairs and as soon as I opened the bedroom to my door, I jumped on the bed. Well, more like tripped over a pile of clothes and fell onto my bed.
