A week has passed since Danny's accident, marking the date that me and Adam became "just friends". This school week has been hectic, you know, with Prom chaos like every year. People fishing for volunteers and bugging us with fundraisers, that type of thing. Two weeks until the big day and I'm not even sure if I want to go. I'll go if Adam's going, but other than that it probably won't be too interesting. Especially without Danny or Adam.
Another night in the hospital room has been spent with Danny and it was just about time to leave.
"You wanna know how I got these scars?" Danny asked jokingly as he pointed to the stitches on his jawline.
"Wow, wasn't expecting THAT one," Adam retorted sarcastically.
"Why so serious?" He joked again.
Adam rolled his eyes and we all laughed.
Danny was getting better very quickly. His cuts and gashes were healing and his attitude was funny and lovable as always. It was really fun visiting him in the hospital every day. But sadly, we have to get going.
"My Mom brought The Dark Knight for me to watch yesterday and I think I've watched it about five times," He added as me and Adam both stood up.
"We'll bring you some movies to watch tomorrow," I told him as I slipped on my jacket.
"No need, The Dark Knight is all I'll ever need!" He laughed. "Just kidding. Please bring some, I'm getting sick of it."
Me and Adam both nodded and we both waved goodbye to him. He waved back with the hand that had his little heart monitor thing attached to his finger. Is it a heart monitor thing? I don't really know.
I shrugged the thought away and made my way to the elevators with Adam. Nothing but dead silence hung in the air as we traveled on the elevator to the first floor. Adam puffed his cheeks up with air and then let it out in one big sigh. We were both on opposite sides of the elevator and he had both arms resting on the railing.
"What are you thinking?" I asked to break the silence.
"Hamburgers. Wanna go get some?" He suggested.
"Sure, but it's late and we have school tomorrow," I told him.
"True, but isn't it worth one less hour of sleep?" He asked.
"Good point, but you're buying," I added as the elevator dinged and the doors slid open.
We both walked out of the elevator and through the main lobby of the hospital.
"Are you going to Prom?" I asked.
"I don't really know. Are you?"
"It wouldn't be fun without Danny," I began and he shrugged in agreement. "Or you."
His reaction was a little different when I added that. A wave of red blushed over his face but it quickly faded. We walked out the automatic doors of the hospital and to his car.
"Actually, I've been working on something interesting for Prom night, something that will make everybody happy," He smiled as he spoke.
"What is it?"
"I'll tell you, but you can't tell anyone. I wouldn't want the secret getting out!" He seemed excited about this.
"Okay..." I trailed off, a little unsure.
"Trust me, it will be fun."
* * *
I ran quickly through the hallways, trying to make it to my class without wasting another minute. I was thirty minutes late to school because I overslept. I knew this would happen! Adam and I were at a Whataburger by my house and were there for longer than we thought we would be.
