My index finger tapped and traced my chin as I wandered around the mall. What should I get Adam? What does he like? He's a boy, he likes boy stuff. Like cologne. Or an Abercrombie jacket. But those weren't thoughtful gifts.
I haven't been to the mall in a while. I don't go very much since I don't like crowded places like this but today I could make an exception. I craned my neck to look up at the names of the stores.
"Aeropostale, Buckle, Sears, Macy's..." I mumbled to myself. "...Lifeway?"
I've never heard of Lifeway before.
Underneath the huge red Lifeway sign was a few small letters
'A Christian Store'
Way to be blunt.
Maybe he'll like something from here?
I entered the store and noticed it wasn't too crowded. It had a few customers but not many. I looked around the store, not really knowing what half the things in here were or meant. I saw a CD rack and walked over to it. Maybe he likes music? As I skimmed through the CDs, I realized I didn't know who half these people were.
Toby Mac and Third Day heck yeah I knew who they were. But Jeremy Camp? Todd Agnew? Barlow Girl? Red? Flyleaf? David Crowder Band? Skillet? Pillar? Disciple? Who the heck were these people?
"Need some help?" A voice asked behind me.
"No thank you." I said politely to the red-headed girl. She wore a red shirt that had the Lifeway logo on it and a bright smile that seemed kind of familiar...
I turned back to the CDs and began skimming through them again,
"Ann..." The girl said a little quietly. I stopped my skimming and turned to face her again. Something clicked in her expression and she snapped her finger before saying, "Ann.... Hatchet!"
"Um... Yeah that's me." I said.
"I thought you looked familiar. I don't know if you know me, but I'm Brandy. I have like, three classes with you."
"Oh...Yeah! I do know you... I just didn't recognize you at first." I said, now realizing who she was. Brandy was sir of a quiet girl, but always seemed really happy. Her deep red hair and her ivory skin suit her perfectly.
"What CD are you looking for?" She asked, changing the subject.
"Something for my friend, Adam-"
"Mitchell?" She asked.
"Yeah. Adam got me a Christmas gift so now I'm getting his so..." I trailed off.
"It's good that you know him. He's a great guy."
"How do you know him?"
"I go to church with him. I was hoping to see him Sunday to give him his gift but he wasn't there strangely. I was his secret Santa." She said with a smile.
"Oh well maybe he'll be there Wednesday." I assured her.
"Hopefully." She mumbled.
"So who out of all of these... People... do you think Adam would like the most?"
"I really don't know how to answer that because I don't know."
"Oh okay. Well who is the best in your opinion?" I said, gesturing to all of the CDs.
"Definitely Todd Agnew." She answered immediately.
"Why not this guy..." I said and picked up a random CD, "Err... Chris Tomlin?" I said as I read the name on the front of the album.
