"Your hook got caught on mine again," Adam told me.
I struggled to reel it away from his but eventually got the hooks untangled. We arrived about an hour ago and found ourselves fishing the whole time.
"I think I got a bite," Adam said.
"Really?" I asked and reeled in my fishing pole so I could cast it out again.
I saw Adam starting to reel it in and a fish submerged from the water, it's lip caught on the hook.
"Touch it," He ordered.
"No! Gross!" I refused.
"But he's saying, 'Ann! Please kiss me!'" He joked.
"Ha ha ha. Very funny," I said sarcastically and rolled my eyes.
Adam took the fish in his hand and put it near my face. I backed up quickly and almost stumbled in the grass. I looked at the fish's rubbery body and bulging eyes and shuddered. I love to fish but when a fish is in my FACE, heh heh... No.
"Get that thing away from me!" I screeched.
"Well, brace yourself because It's going to be really close to you when we eat it!"
"We're not eating that!"
"Uh, yeah we are!"
"What are we eating?" Someone said from behind us.
"Fish, but Ann's too scared," Adam explained to Matt.
"Ah, I see. Let's go gut that thing then!" Matt suggested.
"Gut? You mean like, rip it's guts out?" I asked them.
"Did you think we were going to eat it whole?" He laughed and followed alongside Matt where all of our stuff was. I followed behind as I watched Adam's fish wiggle while it was still on the hook. Adam and Matt were talking about something but I could barely hear them. I ignored the conversation and I picked up my pace to catch up with him but soon regretted it whenever he swung the fish towards me.
I screamed and swatted it away, only to have the end of the hook stab my hand, which made me yelp. I didn't know to be scared of the hole in my hand, or the fact that the hook's been through the lip of a fish.
"Are you okay?" He asked, trying to control his laughter.
"Sort of..." I shrugged.
Once we were back at our little camp site, the boys laid the fish down on a folding table. I sat down on the ground opposite of them behind the fire.
Matt retrieved a knife from his backpack and tested it with his thumb to see if it was sharp.
"I'm not looking!" I squealed and covered my eyes with my hands.
"It's not that gross!" Matt tried to convince me.
Then, all I heard was a thump against the table, some weird squishing noises, and some more thumps and scrapes.
"Please tell me it's over," I pleaded.
"It's over," Adam said and I uncovered my eyes.
Matt turned around from the table with a stick in his hand. It had a long slice of some rubbery looking stuff at the end which I assumed was the fish.
"See? It's not that bad," Matt scoffed.
I pretended to gag and they both gave me a funny look. Now, Matt and Adam both had pieces of fish on their sticks. They positioned them over the fire and they began cooking.
"The only thing we have to worry about is probably the bones but they'll just feel like tough hairs," Matt told me, obviously trying to gross me out.
