Developing children observe the environment and world around them, absorbing the behaviour and actions of people to replicate. Parents are the main figures whom they learn from.

Children believe what is 'normal' to be their home life as they have not yet experienced anything else. The lack of attention and affection during the day and the constant screaming and fighting were all that young Elliana knew.

So as Jack Avery walked away from her in that crowded hall, she very much felt a pang in her heart. Her thoughts drifted to a sudden recollection from her childhood to when she admired the deep stare her father had on her mother whenever she was present in a room. She longed to experience the same love her father felt for her mother as his smile would brighten every single time she stared back at him.

But those romantic dreams were crushed by the pain she was reminded of when she witnessed her father walking out on her mother as she weeped on the floor, begging him to stay. Jack had the same walk, the same tone in his voice when he said she wanted nothing to do with her. He sounded just like her father.

Her mother was a wreck that whole week. Her lack of communication with her daughter was never substantial, but Elliana felt as though she was a stranger in her own home. From that day on, she despised her mother. She hated how her mother wronged her father that he resorted in leaving them. She hated how she didn't even try to get him back

But Elliana wasn't her mother. She believed that she would be better. She was going to get Jack back, even if he didn't know it yet.

One solid plan Elliana had in mind was just constantly being glued around Jack. She believed that if she was with him 24/7, he would become accustomed to her presence. Her success in this plan was her observation with Jack's previous friendship with Davina. They were constantly together every morning, in class, at lunch and even after school. He fell for her, so why wouldn't Jack fall for Elliana?

And so, she attempted to consistently bump into him in the hallways. See the key word here is attempted. Elliana didn't have any classes with Jack, so a 20 second meetup in a crowded hallway was all that she could get before lunch break. She clearly wasn't very logical, but one thing Elliana was good at, was manipulation.

Elliana entered the school office, the fresh air conditioner smell filling her nostrils as she stared at the lady. What was her name again? Mrs Mackerel? No that's a fish. As she stood in front of the help desk, the lady paid her no attention. Elliana was offended at her lack of competence to do her job. She tapped on the desk, her eyebrows flying up on her strained face.

Mrs. Machemer stared back at Elliana with a confused face. She hated when students were rude for no reason, but nonetheless, she smiled. "What can I do for you, Elliana?"

Elliana was taken aback at the fish lady not knowing her name, her face quickly turning into a smile, because of course, who wouldn't know her. "Hey Miss.. uh... I'm here to pick up my friend's schedule."

Mrs. Machemer's brow rose, she wasn't aware of any new students needing a schedule. "Why would they need it?"

Now, Elliana didn't know of a response. She was expecting for her to agree straight away and not ask any stupid questions. She was messing up the plan completely! Elliana's mouth caved open, her teeth gritting together and eyes squinting. "Uhm..." Her silence was deafening as Mrs. Machemer grew in suspicion of her intentions. She was not unaware of the reputation of Elliana Fower.

"My friend lost his." She finally replied, then giving off a cheerful smile to top it off.

"Then why isn't he here instead of you, Elliana?" Mrs. Machemer questioned. She observed the way she was avoiding eye contact and knew she was lying. Working in a high school for 15 years allowed her to have this mastery.

"Because he said he had to do some homework!" Elliana was getting defensive. Why was this stupid lady not giving her what she wanted?

"You do know that your friend has his schedule online. He can check it whenever he wants on his phone." Elliana was stunned, she really didn't think of that one.

An "Oh." was all she managed to mutter out. She chewed on her lip as she stood there, unknowing of what else to say.

"Can I help you with anything else, Elliana?" Mrs. Machemer rose her brows.

Without saying a word, Elliana turned on her feet and quickly headed towards the door. She pulled the doors to open, but struggled as she continued to pull it. In the corner of her eye, she say the 'PUSH' sign and her eyes widened. As she pushed the door, she bolted straight to class.
