As she took out her books from her locker, Davina was met with deafening screams. She instantly knew who it was— Violet and Audrey. She snapped her head towards their direction as she smiled at their expression. They seemed to be over the moon as their eyes lit up and their smiles reached the corner of their eyes, she didn't know why, but she definitely knew she was about to find out.

"He's here." Violet stared at Davina, who looked at them with pure confusion.

"Who is?" Davina questioned, closing her locker and leaned on it.

"I actually cannot believe he's here!" Audrey repeated the phrase.

"You guys can't just keep saying the same thing over and over again without context. Let me say it again, who's here?"

"Why Don't We!" Violet and Audrey screamed and giggled, jumping up and down. But even with their answer, Davina was so lost.

The doors of Richmond High then opened and a crowd of girls were screaming, yelling and obviously fangirling a group of people. She didn't know who it was or why they were here. She knew they were probably famous, considering the whole school's reaction. She was about to get away from the whole situation, but just as she was about to leave, she spotted a face all too familiar, the one and only Jack Avery.

Her breath was caught in her throat and she couldn't move. He was here. From her moving away to Dallas, she would play these situations in her head about when she would ever see Jack again and how he would've been after being away for so long. And out of all the situations she imagined in her head, what she saw, walking in the hallway with a crowd of girls asking for a picture or for them to be noticed by him, was not how that boy she knew all those years ago was depicted in her brain.

Jack looked different, he had obviously looked older and more mature from that boy back in freshman year. The most noticeable difference was his hair. This, Davina smiled at the most as she replayed their conversation in her mind, the memory was as crystal clear.

"You know what would be crazy?" Jack said and I cocked up an eyebrow, "What if—what if I had a perm and make my hair curly?"

I laughed at his statement and shook my head, "I cam already imagine it. The Jack Avery, looking like a poodle."

Jack gasped and pretended to be hurt, "Excuse me, I would pull off curls. Plus, curls get the girls." I chuckled at his response and shook my head once again.

On his head laid a puff of curls with blond highlights. Davina admitted to herself, he was right, the curls definitely did get all the girls that were bombarding him right now, reaching for the hair on his head. She never realised how much she missed looking at his face. She watched as he smiled, greeting all the students that came up to him and all the boys that would fist-bump him. But she didn't realise how much of a stranger she felt, not until he walked past her, looked at her straight in the eye, and walked away.

Davina's mind was cloudy and foggy, she felt a stinging sensation in her heart. She was distracted by her thoughts as she sat in class, not listening to a word the teacher said. She stared at the back of Jack's head, who was sitting towards the front of the room. They shared the same first and second period class together and he had not even looked her way once. Davina knew her appearance didn't change much over the years, so she was easily recognisable. She just didn't know why he hadn't spoke a word to her.

In her mind, she was conflicted in talking to Jack, maybe ask how he was doing, but she shot that thought down as her mind became clear with the reason why he probably didn't even want to talk to her. It was because she left, without even saying a single thing to him.

As Davina took a step, she wasn't looking at where she was going and bumped into someone and their tray of food dropped on the floor. She gasped as she noticed what she had done and scrambled to pick the things off the floor. "I am so sorry!" She apologised.

"Don't worry about it." Her head snapped up as she recognised the voice. With eyes wide open and the boy sharing the same expression, her mouth fell open. At first, Davina was in shock, the next, she realised the situation and hit the boy's arm.

"What the hell are you doing here Zach?" Davina looked at the boy, she was half angry and half confused.

"I should be saying the same thing to you!" Zach exclaimed. He didn't know that Davina was going to be in Pennsylvania, knowing well about her past.

"No, you are not avoiding my question, Zachary." Zach knew she was mad, she used his full name.

Zach put his hand up in defence, "Okay, okay, okay, wait." He sighed, "I'm attending school here with my band."

Davina knew that Zach was in a band and guess what band was also at the school that same morning, "Wait, your band, as in Why Don't We?"

"Yeah, you probably already heard it from the other students. Look, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I'll explain it all to you after school." Davina didn't hear what Zach was saying though, because in her mind, she was putting all the pieces together. Due to her being shocked in her thoughts, she didn't even realise she was being dragged by Zach to a table where 4 boys were seated at.

Zach's voice snapped her out of her phase, "Hey guys, I want you to meet my close friend from Dallas, Davina."

Davina couldn't smile, only staring at the boys who said their 'hellos' with content. They obviously were happy to meet her, although to them, she may not have reciprocated the same. They started to say their names and once the curly headed boy was expected to introduce himself, Davina blurted out, "Jack."

There was a silence between the group as the boys looked at each other. One boy with blue eyes spoke up, "You know Jack?"

"Yeah, we were friends in freshman year." Davina responded, without even thinking about it. Her eyes were fixated on Jack, who didn't leave his eyes on her either.

"Yeah, we were friends, but not after she left because people exposed her for the true slut she was." Jack's voice dripped with venom and toxicity. His eyes were not the same warm brown eyes, but filled with darkness and hate?

"Why the fuck would you say that?" Zach snapped, he didn't know why he would say such a vile thing to the person who he called a sister. He was close with Jack, but the words that came out of his mouth crossed the line.

Davina's eyebrows were furrowed and she did not recognise the boy who was in front of her. Without blinking, Jack said, "It's true. She even fucked the teacher to get an A on her report."

Who was this person? It wasn't Jack Avery, the charming boy who sat with her during lunch 3 years ago. Davina was staring at the eyes of a complete stranger and she couldn't take it anymore. It had been like he was consumed by an unknown entity that complete changed his personality. She was hurt, not even being able to comprehend that Jack was able to say those things to her.

With that, she slowly walked backwards and ran away from the cafeteria.
