Chapter 10: The Slammer

Eren POV:

I looked over to my left and see that it's 8:30, I turned my alarm off last night because a) I don't have school and b) so my mum doesn't know that I'm awake

I get changed into something slightly presentable as we're having visitors soon

I put on a pair of light grey tracksuit bottoms and a black Calvin klein t shirt, I wear black socks to match

I wash my face and brush my teeth

Style my hair and walk downstairs

Fingers crossed my mum isn't home

I look outside the window, pulling back the thin, floral patterned blinds

Phew, she's gone. My shoulders instantly relax and I continue to make myself some shreddies, thinking I'll have a glass of orange juice to treat myself

My dad is already awake and is watching the highlights from the game yesterday: Shiganshina Wanderers vs Sheena FC

Of course Shiganshina lost, my dad has been a big fan of them since I can remember, but they're long passed their glory days

On Paradis, football (soccer) is a pretty big sport, along with boxing and baseball

There are 10 divisions/ leagues in Paradis football, 1 being the best and 10 being the worst

Division 10 to division 7 are all amateur leagues, none of the players get paid and they play for fun mainly

Division 6 to division 4 are semi professional, the players are good and they get paid, but not enough to live off. They usually have another job or are quite young, hoping to become professional one day

Division 3 to 1 are professional, they live and breathe football, with the top division 1 players earning £80,000 a week

Shiganshina Wanderers were the best team on Paradis back in the mid 90s

They won the clubs World Cup and had won the league in 94', 95', 96' and 97', going undefeated in both 95' and 96', winning all their games in 95'

Then they got into some financial problems as Shiganshina started to dip into poverty as a district, this affected everyone

The manager left because of this so, the youth manager had to take over and he just wasn't as good

In the late 90s and early 2000s they finished between 3rd and 11th (out of 16), gradually finishing lower and lower each year until in the 2002/03 season they got relegated to division 2 because they finished 14th

A bunch of players left due to this and a lot of others were sold to make up money, they ended up scrapping a 13th finish the season after but then got relegated again in 2005

And ever since then they've been playing in the third division of Paradisian football

My dad has been convinced every year since 2005 that they'll get promoted but the closest they've come is the semi final of the play offs, finishing 5th overall and that was in 2009

Ever since then they've been pretty average, finishing between 7th and 10th

Currently they're struggling and haven't won a game all season

They're 10 games through the season and there are 30 in total, they're 15th

Of course Sheena FC beat them 3-0 and my dad was mad so I thought it best not to bother him and continue with my shreddies

After I was finished I checked the time and realised it was 8:55

I texted my friends telling them the police are coming in 5 minutes and that I'll update them when they've left
