Chapter 13: Life On The Inside Part 2

Eren's POV:

As the ten of us are waiting outside Officer Drakeford's office, we hear the muffled sound of footprints in the distance

They begin to get closer and round the corner

It's Officer Drakeford, a tall, beefy man in his mid 40s. A mixture of muscle and beer belly make him look huge

He's probably about 6'3 and has dark brown hair, slightly receding with light stubble

Officer D: "Right you runts. I'll call you in one by one so we can speak privately. First, Leo Ashley"

A bald headed, lanky kid walked into the office and the rest of us waited, either sitting cross legged on the floor or leaning against the wall

After roughly 50 minutes, I was called in, the sixth person on the list

I walked through the wooden door frame and sat on the office chair opposite Officer Drakeford

He took his seat opposite me on his, much grander, office chair

Officer D: "So Jaeger. We've got quite a few vacancies and it's good that you're interested in some hard work. Here's the list of jobs, although the ones with 'X' next to them are unavailable to you"

Vacancies:

Cargo (packaging, unpackaging and transferring)
Carpenter (X)
Cell Maintenance
Cleaner
Equipment Drive (X)
Gardener
Gym Maintenance
Heavy Lifter (X)
Kitchen Assistant
Laundrette
Librarian
Mechanical Assistant (X)
Painting & Decorating
Plumbing Assistant (X)
Printer

I looked at these and figured, I don't want to do anything boring so that eliminates laundrette, librarian and printer

Then I realised that we're all paid the same, secret communism, meaning I don't want to do anything too demanding or tasking. That rules out Cell Maintenance (because there's a lot of cells), Cleaner (because this place is huge) and Gardener (as the garden is titanic). That leaves Cargo, Gym Maintenance, Kitchen Assistant and Painting & Decorating. Painting & Decorating sounds cool but they probably won't need me alot so I won't get any money. I don't want to work in the kitchens because I just don't feel like it

So Cargo or Gym Maintenance?

With Cargo I'll be able to get extra workouts in to stay in shape but it might get repetitive

Gym Maintenance, I'll be looking after my own domain but it'll piss me off when I see other people in there and I don't want to end up becoming the Gym Karen

Eren: "I'd like to do Cargo please"

Officer D: "Ah smart choice kid, I'm sure they'll love you"

He hands me a map that shows the route from his office to where I'll be working for the Cargo, it's at the back of the prison, next to Heavy Lifting so I assume they work together

Officer D: "I know you're new so follow this and have a good day. No slacking or you will be fired"

Eren: "Thanks sir"

And with that I got up and followed the map

After walking for a solid 5 minutes, I got to my destination

I saw a short, skinny man with light brown hair and a rough beard come over to me

Boss: "Alright Kid? I'm yer boss for the foreseeable. I'm not an officer, I work 'ere as par' o' the Lorry Containmen' Shippin' Department, which you now work for as a Cargoman. Basically what yer job is, is to take all o' them boxes outta the lorries and stack them to where they're meant to be stacked. The 'eavy lifting lads will be doing the stuff from anovver lorry, they deal wiv the stuff over 50kg"
