St Arlene’s Orphanage! Did she heard it right? What was Zach doing there? To which he said that he was a member of the boards and though he didn’t used to visit there much, but around those days he was asked to attend few meeting for important decisions to be taken. Amelia listened to what he said silently.
Zach shared all the details about the past, with her. How he saw her playing with the kids the next day and then distributing her wedding cards to her friends.
Memories flooded in Amelia’s mind as she recalled the times she used to spent there with kids. She remembered how happy she used to feel, spending time with those kids, especially Abram. Being an orphan and alone in this world and no one to care or love to, she had a great concern for orphanage kids. Spending time with them each weekend had become like a ritual for her. Amelia began to feel nostalgic about it and regretted her decision of marrying Jaqcob even more as it was because of him that she had to quit going there. He was wary of kids and she realized this later, after their first argumjent over her going to Orphanage just few days after her marriage. He was afraid that going there might bring out her maternal instinct and she would crave for a baby, which Jacob had plainly cleared this to her that he can’t see himself settling down with a kid anytime soon.
Telling a man who hates even the thought of being a father that he is to become a father was like giving an arrow in the hand of a hunter and expecting he won’t hunt! Jacob and Zach are as poles apart from each other in nature and character as night and day. Jacob is harsh reality and Zach is like a beautiful dream. And, Amelia felt that if it’s only in dreams that she and Zach can be together then she will never stop dreaming. Except that, Reality was harsh and hard for her and it wouldn’t much allow her to dream.
“I couldn’t believe my luck when I saw you at the elevator that day. It took away what little peace I had left with, when you told me that Jacob is your husband.” Zach said bitterly. It was evident that he clearly hated even the mention of his name. After a little pause, as if considering something he added,”But, does not they say what happens, happens for good. I was glad I visited Edinburgh and found you again.” He said with a smile.
“Did you ever tried to meet me?” Amelia couldn’t resist asking.
“Trust me, Never. Though it cost me a lot to not know about you, making me restless and sleepless, But I sticked to the promise I made to Gran.”
So, Rachel does knows everything, Amelia thought. “You should have moved on” She said as her thoughts ran from Rachel to Meg. It’s obvious that Zach loves her that is why he never got interested in Meg, she assumed. But, his not talking about her tends to make her feel curious.
“I told you before, Amelia. I tried, but I couldn’t”
“You ask me to give myself a second chance, but you don’t apply that theory on yourself. Why?” Her question pricked into his emotions.
Yes, he knows that too. Did not he? But, he couldn’t.
Why?
Because he is willing to wait for her to realize that are meant to be together.
