Amelia couldn't endure the silence anymore and she knew she had to put some hindsight to him or he will misunderstand her and favour Jacob by telling him about the baby. And she couldn't even blame him, when for no fault of his; he had been made involved in the mess of her life and Jacob accusing him for her leaving him.
She touched his hand and immediately his eyes caught hers and she saw the real pain in them as she said, "Please Zach, Never tell him. You know about his plans already, I do not have to say much on that ground, but that's not all..." She paused and straightening up said, "He will make my life more miserable than it already is and he never wanted the baby. I left him for genuine reasons and not for any fun."
"He didn't want the baby?"
"No, he didn't. He does not know about the baby, but he had made it clear to me that he does not want a baby."
"This is a personal question so pardon me asking, but I need to know why he would want that and why he intended to move out. Weren't you guys happy together?"
Amelia closed her eyes with Shame and hurt, "No"
Zach didn't drag the topic anymore. One doesn't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out why marriages don't work, and why this particular marriage had fallen apart. Jacob's list of affairs, spoke a lot. He didn't want to dig in more and hurt her, not when she is already in a very emotional phase. Even the doctor had warned against her having any kind of stress, as it might cause problems in her pregnancy.
"Hmm," He nodded. Thinking maybe this is the best thing to do at the moment.
"Thanks, now can we please leave. Samantha must be worried sick for me." She said with a worried expression.
"Samantha?" He asked.
"My friend. She's like a mother figure to me"
"It's good to know that you made a friend here, at least someone is there to look for you"
"Samantha is not my new friend," She said as she gave a guilty expression continued saying, "She was our housekeeper since I'm married to Jacob"
"But why you left him?" His voice was seriously curious.
Amelia tried to escape his eyes, but couldn't look at him, she said, "After you left that day, he was very upset for the deal couldn't take place. Later, he accused..." Embarrassment surfaced as she tried to answer him, "He accused me making you do it."
"And, so you left?"
"Yes, that and the fact that he never wanted a baby, I was afraid he would make me abort" She said, closing her eyes as even the thought disgusts her.
"What if he changed his mind? You could have tried."
"I know he wouldn't, but even if he did then also I would have still done the same thing because my baby does not need to grow in an environment where his father is planning to move out with his mistress and then put false blames on his mother..." She couldn't complete the words that he accused her of having an affair with him. Zach felt her tension and ended the topic. His face tightened at the situations Amelia had to face but he tried to keep the moment light by teasing her her, saying in a funny way "Brave Woman! So that is why you ran away with your housekeeper?"
Both burst out laughing. Amelia was laughing hard at what he said. She didn't remember when she had last laughed so much. Ages ago. Zach was observing her, taking in her lovely laugh, the cute voice she made as he stared at her. But soon the moment was replaced with sadness as tears came out of her eyes and she went emotional over her situation. "Can we leave now, please?"
