A week had passed since her staying with him at his villa. She never had known she could be this happy in her life ever. The phase she had crossed with Jacob had left scars on her heart and she believed they would never heal. And, they were not healed yet. Not exactly. She could only wish that she can be able to forget all those hurts but she couldn't. It seemed like happiness and sadness walked hand in hand for her. Each time she is happy, a while later sadness replaces it because of the stark reality that she is still Jacob's wife. He still has some hold on her. She wished to be free from it, but couldn't.
Their wedding photograph kept reminding her of her sorrows and helped her stay grounded and not let hopes fly and make some more wrong choices in her life. Her heart, tried to probe something in her mind, but she deliberately kept ignoring it. She might get dad later, but the happiness she felt here was special for her and she does not want to ever risk losing them.
Zach and Amelia used to walk and chat on the lawn most evenings, after dinner. Zach urged her to carry a shawl fearing she might feel cold. He took every care and insisted her in taking all precautions, that she stood so that her health stays in good state and there be no complications in her pregnancy. He had also arranged a new, well-qualified and known gynaecologist for her.
Zach had lived up to his words of helping her go through her pregnancy safely. He never lost a single opportunity to take care of her. Had never over-looked nor had ignored a single thing she should do or shouldn't do. He had ensured that she was doing whatever her new doctor had prescribed her. All he wanted was for her to be safe and happy.
And, it was for that one reason solely for which he had made her talk about Jacob, after seeing her crying, holding her wedding picture one day when she didn't turn up for a walk in the lawn.
He went in her room to check upon her, to see if she is alright. What he discovered, had upset him. Not because she is still married to Jacob or was thinking of him, but because she was still shunted by that fact and it was affecting her, robbing her of the happiness she used to feel here.
"I think you should divorce him straight away, why wait until delivering your baby and suffer for so long," Zach suggested when she first refused to divorce Jacob now.
They had become very good friends. Zach's feeling was becoming strong, but they were selfless feelings. Her happiness mattered more for him. And, Amelia valued his judgements and advices.
"I respect your concern, Zach, but I cannot do it now," She said in a frightened voice.
"But why? What are you so afraid of?" He questioned.
"Him!" Her tone so sad, it made his heart flutter with concern.
"I'm there for you, Amelia. As a friend, I will stand by you, protect you," He said with emotion. "Don't you trust me?'" He asked her looking directly in her eyes.
“Trust?” She gave a bitter laugh. “I don’t trust myself... My judgements”
“When you cannot trust yourself, then you must have trust in the trust of the person you trust, Have you not heard this phrase before?”
Amelia gave a nod. “Then trust me, I will not cause you regret it,” He swore. “Can you trust me, Amelia?,” He asked, staring directly in her eyes.
The way he looked, hypnotized her. She stared back and said with a nod, “I do, Zach. I trust you.”
He was watching her intently, his eyes gleaming with happy emotions. She trusts him.
How wonderful it sounds! He thought in his heart.
Does not they say ‘I trust you is a better compliment than I love you because You might not trust the one you love, but you always love the one you trust.’ Amelia might not love him but she definitely cares for him. He is certain of that since the way they began talking and sharing about each others life and discussing everyday things. Does it not mean that she cares for him?
