Zach had spent the next few hours clearing all the hospital and hotel bills and ordered tickets for the flight to Harrogate for the three of them. He was worrying if Amelia can take a flight for her situation is a bit tricky, but Doctor said that it's nothing too serious and she can fly but she has to take immense care of herself to be fit enough to give birth to the baby. Zach had taken all her medical details and reports to consult with another gynaecologist at Harrogate.
Zach was smiling for their sake, because he doesn't want them to sense that he is considering them as some sort of a burdened responsibility. It's his wish to help Amelia but deep down he has been working hard at repressing the angry frustration that seeing Amelia in this condition has aroused. He thought he did the best thing for her, for her security by turning down the deal if selling her part of the shares. Merely, that man - Jacob is a complete bastard. He felt no empathy for him for not being able to know about his child's birth.
The conversation with Samantha when he came to meet her later at night to see if everything is ready for their journey or not. Samantha was busy packing things. Zach surfaced and looked tired. Samantha offered him a coffee as they talked about who will take care of the cottage. Zach offered to let his friend have the key and he will make sure that he keeps things maintained and tidy. Samantha agreed.
The conversation had then shifted to Amelia. Zach questioned her about what she had said regarding Amelia and Jacob when the truth of her bruises came out. Samantha shared all she knew and it showed the more detailed and wild side of Jacob to Zach. Zach hated him!
"He used to beat her often, and the poor thing helplessly endured every harshness of his, hoping he would change someday," Samantha chocked, as she told Zach about Amelia's life with Jacob. He felt the blood draining from his face. He clenched his fists, gritted his teeth when he came to know about what happened at the night Amelia decided to leave him.
Samantha told him everything that he used to do to her and yet Amelia was trying hard to make their work because she loved him. And, how she hoped he will change.
Zach felt uncomfortable hearing that, but it was the facts about Jacob that aroused bitterness in him and made him determined to never let Jacob harm Amelia ever again. "Such people never changes, Samantha," He said bitterly.
"That is true. Jacob had changed after their marriage, if he ever loved had loved her, I doubt," Samantha said fiercely. "He only kept her to satisfy his ego and pride and to torture her after his failures."
Zach couldn't take anymore of this. He was furious. He failed to understand why Amelia let him do all these to her and then his mind echoed, 'because she loves him.' A strange feeling of hatred and jealousy towards Jacob gripped him and he cursed under his breath for his shallowness to not being able to live up to the love he got from his wife. And, there are people who wait to find such great love, he thought grimly.
**********
The next morning Samantha came to the hospital to meet her and Amelia told her that she needs to talk to Zach to about them staying at the cottage. He can also help them by staying their, they don't really have to stay with him. He can always keep a check on them on weekends or whenever he is free to see if she is doing well. Samantha understood her explanations, but she knew Zach wouldn't agree to this as he has already made plans. She preferred to stay quiet about it.
Looking closely at Amelia, seeing the lines of strain about her eyes, she could see that Amelia had been making an effort to show her that she is trying to come to terms with the change and accepting his help. But, it wasn't really working with Samantha. She could see past her to know, Amelia is pretending.
