Amelia stepped into her husband's office in a very disturbing mood. She didn't want to come, but Jacob had threatened her to come or he would divorce her but with holding her from the money and a house which she has inherited from her God-mother. He knew how she hopes to open an orphanage in that house using that money. This is his trump card which he has always been using on her to make her not give up on their marriage and do all sorts of things he expects her to do. Feeling helpless and constrained because of her own foolishness to let him have the papers of the house, she knew she has no escape from him. Ever.

Getting divorce from Jacob was a glorious thing to happen to her but not at the cost of losing the only property she posses of the only relative she had ever known in her entire life. It was not just a property to her but a gift from her beloved god mother which could make her dream of having her own orphanage, come true. Being an orphan herself since a very young age, she wanted to do whatever she could do for those of her kind. So, after having yet another of their arguments and knowing she cannot change his mind, she agreed to do as he wanted. He called her to meet one of his prestigious clients who accepted to buy her part of shares which she automatically had inherited as by the will of his late parents.

Jacob was in real need of money for some new business venture. She was needed to sign some papers and the client wanted to know if she was selling the shares on her own will, since he didn't want to have any issues later. Jacob didn't really had a sound reputation because of his philandering ways so no one would wanted to risk doing any business with him without being certain about all the facts.

Amelia didn't want to sell off the shares as it was the only source of security for her against Jacob's fickleness, but Jacob forcely persuaded her agree to sign the papers emphasizing that he really needed the money, urgently and blackmailing her yet again of the consequences she has to face if she chose to go against his wishes. There was no point in arguing further, she knew Jacob does what he wanted to do, by hook or by crook. Being the victim of his blackmails as always and foolishly hoping that this would make him see how she still wants to save their marriage and expecting things to change for better, Amelia agreed.

Amelia did knew that Jacob was extravagantly wasting on his mistresses and he would never acknowledge what she does for him and will only hurt her in the end. He seemed to be taking delight in hurting her because he was mad at her unresponsiveness while they were together. She didn't want to let him ruin everything they have and be left with nothing for their future, but he just wouldn't listen to her.

Amelia made her way hastily towards the lift, hiding her unshed tears, at his changed ways and flamboyant ways. Jacob has said worse things to her, but she always let that go, but since she came to know about his mistresses, she couldn't handle the fact. Not even till date, it's been almost a year she came to know he was having an affair with someone named Janet. She would have divorced him right away, but she couldn't. It was not just her inheritance that she was worried about. But, the fact that she had loved him and chose to marry him and she intends to respects the vows she had made to him. He was all she had and she was hoping that he will come around to love her as he used to when she married her. Only that, Jacob sees her reasons as her weakness and makes use of her goodness and tolerance.

Amelia wasn't wearing her heart in her sleeves when she had agreed to marry him. Hardly. She had tested him to be sure. But her fate cheated her or he was plain lucky. Jacob proved to her that he loved her back then, courting her for almost 6 months until she first agreed to date him. He was a complete gentleman and she was sure he cared for her. Being an orphan after her parents' death when she was 12, life hd already taught her a few lessons and it would have been worse if her God-mother has not turned up to the orphanage she was sent to and adopted her, after spending a miserable year at that place. Though, her fate didn't shone for long. He God-Mother too expired just a month after she turned 17, leaving all she had to Amelia as she had no offsprings of her own and her husband had died years ago.

Few months later, she met Jacob, who showed up at her school and took keen interest in her since he first set his eyes on her. Amelia was on cloud nine when Jacob proposed her for marriage, but the truth came out on their wedding night itself that his feelings were more basic than emotional. He was selfish and un-caring and he was only in love with her body, not her.

The truth had hurt her when the facts came out in the open, but it was too late to back off. She was tied down by the bonds of matrimony and the black mailings of taking away her inheritance. At first, she never really cared about the inheritance, she thought it was just a bluff. She had loved him too blindly to see that he was a wolf in a sheeps clothing. He was the only relative she had, by the bonds of marriage, and she wanted to work upon it, to make him love her just as she loved him but he never learnt to love or respect her feelings. Amelia thought, maybe a child would change things for her, but unluckily she never got pregnant. Each night, Jacob used to attack her mercilessly for his needs and she used to lie like a dead body under his ruthless love making, without showing any response. This used to annoy Jacob and in time he lessened sharing bed with her, to which she was very thankful. It was only when he was mad or upset over something or someone that he used to take it out on her by forcing her into intimacy. Amelia only hoped that someday she will get pregnant and things will change. Or, maybe he will allow her to atleast run her own orphanage.

But none of it ever happened.

Lost in her thoughts, Amelia stepped into the elevator in a tortured state of mind and by mistake bumped into a man who was holding the door of the elevator for her, when he saw her coming towards it. The lift's door closed as they collided and hit the walls of the elevator.

"Don't Move," The man said. His voice deep and husky as he took hold of her arms to stop her.

"Let me go.." She said in a petrified tone.

"Well, I'm not sure that would be a good idea, Miss,"

Amelia froze, slowly turning her face to see the man she bumped into, and realizing his reason for stopping her. She was completely on top of him and he was almost stuck in the space the lift provided. The more she tried to get up, the more they get stuck. Her annoyed eyes stared at the ruggedly handsome man who was staring back at her with keen admiration. His gray eyes narrowed appreciatively, his dark brown hairs complimenting his fair and clean-shaved skin. His nose was aquiline and she noticed his lips curving into a smile as she looked at him with shocking annoyance.

Amelia moved again to get up. He holds her hands, gently touching her and instructed her to wait. She squirmed, but did as he said. He grabbed hold of her shoulders and helped her stand, rising up from the grounds along with her. And almost impulsively his hand touched her shiny black hair. Amelia flinched away from him saying,"Don't"

He immediately took his hands away and swore as if he didn't know what he did and straightened his composure as he stood straight. He apologized, saying,"I'm Sorry." Amelia saw a man of almost six feet standing tall against her 5.6", dressed in formals. He looked, strong, muscular and powerful.
