Zach exhaled a frustrated breath, cursing himself for that little scene with Amelia. He was walking towards his room when he ran down meeting Rachel,  who was coming out of her room. Zach's mood was quite obvious to her and in a worried expression she asked, "Something bothering you, my boy?"

"What do you want to hear?" His voice low. He avoided her gaze as he said,"You were right, I was stupid to think I could control my feelings for her."

Rachel mouth fell open as she gasped. "You told her?"

He couldn't tell her what happened, of course. That would be embarrassing. "Sort of..."

"If you're trying to tell me that you did it accidentally then I'm not believing you," Rachel said sharply, her eyes glittering.

"But I had not done anything on purpose, Gran."

"You ought to be careful, boy," she said in a raised voice.

Zach feared that someone might hear their conversation. He requested his grandmother to have the conversation in her room. She was angry but did a nod and went back to her room with him.

"I did warn you that I will not tolerate anything at the cost of our family's reputation." Her face changed color because of the anger. Zach stood quiet as she continued,"She is married and bearing another man child... What's over you?"

"I thought you liked her," was the only thing he uttered.

"Liking her does not mean compromising on self-respect and reputation,"  She flung back.

"She left him, I told you. You were happy I was helping her...." He turned his back and said,"You did know she is the same woman I told you about a few months ago..."

"And, I thought it ended there because she was married"

"Gran...," Zach said in a pleading voice.

"Don't "Gran" Me, Zach," She said in a hard voice. "I know about your feelings and her situations, but she still is another man's wife and you should remember that. It's unacceptable for me, do you get it?" She said strictly.

Zach sat down on the couch, his hands on his face. For the next ten minutes the room was in silence. Rachel was sitting on the other couch, watching him intently. She was not against her, not against her being married once, not even against her having a child, but she cannot digest that Zach is crossing his borders, all the values and principles his parents and later she had brought him up with, being blinded by his feelings. She is not narrow-minded or conservative, but something's are just acceptable and she had made it quite velar to him when he mentioned about Amelia was staying with them. He had told her he has not and will never make any advancements towards her until she is clear about what she wants and divorces her husband.
