After staying for a week at Julie's flat, finally through Samantha, she met someone name Micheal who helped them find a good cottage in Edinburgh. She made it very clear to him that she needs a flat or anything in or around Edinburgh, reasonably good enough to live in someplace far away from London. And, in a week she was shown pictures of the cottage and, without checking to first check out the cottage she agreed to buy. She knew, however it may have been, it will be a thousand times better than what she is facing now and she needed to be as far away from Jacob as possible and at the earliest.
A day after the clearance of payments and signing all necessary documents and transferring the cottage under her name, she took a flight to Edinburgh with Samantha. The journey from London had been tiresome. She had to change trains twice and then a bus ride to reach her cottage for which she had to walk for about fifteen minutes. She was completely exhausted and it was not just physically, but also emotionally and mentally as the fact that she has to do all this and be away from the city she had lived her entire life brought tears to her eyes. But, at the same time she was relieved that at least now she will have to bear no tortures and thrashings.
She thought her life was like some Fairytale when she finally accepted Jacob in her life and agreed to marry him, but it was nothing but a nightmare dressed like a dream, and it took no time to reveal it's true colors. When Amelia and Samantha reached the cottage, both sighed a breath of relief for finally reaching the destination and was happy to see the cottage. It was in good shape, with fields behind and little trees on the left and an empty place at the front that can easily be extended as a porch or something, but as they unlocked the door and entered inside their lips parted in shock and dismay. Now she knew why Micheal was praising the cottage only from outside.
Calling the place dirty would be an understatement. It looked near to devastated. There were two bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms in the cottage, a kitchen and a front area as a sitting room. And all of them were equally filthy. She had paid a good amount of money, unaffordable as it was almost all of her savings for this cottage and it was completely dilapidated from inside. It needed a good sum of money to repair it and bring it into good shape and a lot of hard work to clean it enough to be hygienic.
"It will take days to clear everything, Sam and not to forget the money it would require to repair things. The place looks as if it's been not in use for decades," sadness in her tone as she felt kicking herself for rushing into things and not checking out the cottage at first.
"We should have been more cautious. It was stupid to hang on to the words of the seller, they are all cheaters," Samantha agreed but looking at Amelia's sad face, she hurriedly said,"but it's not so bad, either. With a little effort, it can look beautiful and cozy."
Amelia knew that was said to make her feel better. She felt like crying, but she knew she had no alternatives and with Samantha's encouragement, support and sympathy she comforted herself that together they will clear up the mess and make it good enough to live. Thankfully, there were no electrical or water storage issues. Samantha checked the taps in the kitchen and the shower in the bathrooms. Cleaning aids were also available, which they really didn't expected.
They set their luggage at a corner of the sitting area. Amelia began removing the scattered items from the floor and Samantha went in search for a broom to clear the cobwebs. Later, they scrubbed and polished the floor and walls and placed the table and an old sofa in the corner, near the window. By late evening they could make the clean enough to survive through. Both women then sat on the sofa with coffee mugs in their hands and made a list of the furniture and the items they require like curtains and few other odd articles they will need. It took almost two weeks for the place to be perfect.
