Zach had been watching her from his study room window. He wanted to speak to her, but was keeping distance because he didn't want a repetition of what happened between them a few days ago. He had fallen in love with her and he wants to marry her, to love her and to keep her happy, to care and protect her and her child. But, he has to wait until she is ready to face this fact, to accept his love and divorce Jacob.
He desires her to be in his life, but with her feeling proud of them being together and not take it as a shame or a favor from him. Her grandmother had been correct about the objection she has raised. He knew it's hard for Amelia to fall in love again... With him, But the hardest task would be for her to forget her past and trust him with the same sincerity as one trusts someone without even a speck of doubt in it.
It would take time for Zach to reach that level of her trust, but he was sure he will be able to win her trust completely because he genuinely loves her and will do anything to keep her happy. That is the one reason why he had not yet told her of his feelings and is waiting for her to divorce Jacob first.
A tattered trust is more hard to win over, than making someone trust you for the first time. Trust becomes like a crumpled paper, full of creases, once doubts appears. Then, it's impossible to smooth it out like before. But, he believes in the strength of his feelings. The past can never be completely forgotten, but He is sure, with his love and friendship, Amelia will be able to overcome everything.
Zach frowned when he saw her wiping her eyes. She seemed pained as she ran her hand over her belly. He thought she is again having some pregnancy issues. He overlooked all his reasons and ran out of his study, down the stairs, rushing through the main hall and then out of the house, on the lawn where she was sitting. Her eyes in shock as she saw him running towards her in haste.
"What's wrong?, Are you Okay?," He said in a worried tone walking near to her and touching her shoulders with both hands.
Amelia didn't know whether to be happy or sad for him to come and inquire about her personally. He had been so estranged these past few days and now he was questioning her as if everything was normal between them.
She wanted to ignore him just as he did, but she couldn't do it. She looked at him intently to see the expression in his eyes. And, then she smiled. Everything was pushed aside for this moment. Hearing him talk to her, having him with her and the same concern in his eyes for her made her feel alive; her senses began humming and her eyes shone with happiness. She had longed to see him, hear him like they had before.
Zach was feeling impatient, but then his eyes widened at her changing expression. "What?, Why are you smiling?
"I'm happy to know you still care for me." An edge of complaining in her tone.
"And, when I had stopped caring about you?," He asked with a stern look on his face.
"You can only answer that," She uttered in a low voice, trying not to look at him. Sadness in her tone as she added whilst making a sad face,"You had been avoiding me..."
He felt his heart coming out for her. He cannot see her sad. He wanted to hold her hand, touch her face and wipe this gloominess in her face, and tell her he has not changed, that he still cares for her as much as before, or maybe more but never less. But, he couldn't do that.
