Time stood still.
In a matter of seconds, the once mellow lights seemed way too bright and the murmurs of conversations became deafening.
Everything seemed bearable before, but now it caused you nothing but pain.
You watched in confusion as Yoona backed away from the microphone and made her way over to Yeonjun, placing a kiss on his cheek and intertwining her arm around his.
Yeonjun looked mortified.
As the mc made her way back over the microphone, highlighting how the ball was coming to an end, you used it as an opportunity to slip off of the stage and try to get outside.
Pushing your way through the crowd, you gasped when you bumped into someone.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I should've been paying more attention"
"Y/n?"
Looking up, you felt much more relaxed when you say the familiar face of Mikyong. Although she didn't look like her happy self, she looked furious.
"Where are you going in such a rush?", she asked.
"I just need to get out of here!"
Before Mikyong could even say a word, you had already made your way past her and were rushing up the stairs and out of the main entrance.
Unfortunately for you, as soon as the door closed behind you a loud rumble emitted from the sky and spots of rain began to fall to the ground. Those spits of rain only got heavier and heavier until soon you were drenched from head to toe.
"Well this is just great", you muttered in frustration.
As you sunk to the ground, taking a seat on the damp stone beneath you, you lowered your head in anguish.
Your mind and emotions were all over the place. Over the past week, you felt a shift in yours and Yeonjun's relationship and now, whatever that shift was, it had to mean nothing to you.
His presence had become important to you and now, he was going to be taken away from you as well.
"Y/n? It's freezing out here. Please come inside, you're going to catch a cold"
You raised your head and gasped.
"Yeonjun?"
You turned around to see a slightly dampened Yeonjun looking down at you in worry. He held out a hand to you and frowned.
"Please come back inside"
"Shouldn't you be with Yoona", you said, dismissing his hand and averting his gaze.
Yeonjun sighed, taking a look to the ground below him before deciding to sit down beside you.
"You should know Y/n, I had no part in this. Marrying Yoona? You really think I'd be okay with that? I don't even know the girl that well"
He placed his head into his hands and groaned out in frustration.
"I don't want this marriage, y/n..... I really don't"
The way he spoke was quiet and pained, which broke your heart.
Sighing, you turned your gaze towards him and used your hands to lower his away from his face.
"Yeonjun, look at me", you stated.
Yeonjun promptly did so and now the two of you were looking at one another.
"You don't have to do anything you don't want to, why can't you go and tell Yoona that the wedding isn't going to happen?", you asked. "You act as if there is no way you can get out of this?"
"Because there isn't"
Yeonjun pursed his lips, trying to mask his sorrow, but it was clearly too late for that. You already knew how upset the older man was. You weren't sure exactly what to say in this moment. So you did the only thing you could think of.
Placing your head on his shoulder, you wrapped your arm around his.
"I'm sorry I can't be of more help", you whispered.
"It's not your fault Y/n", Yeonjun replied, leaning his head against yours. "It just sucks that I won't be able to marry who I love"
"Yeonjun....-"
"What's going on here?"
The two of you gasped and immediately pulled apart to the sound of the all too familiar voice.
"Beomgyu- I"
"Yeonjun, your fiancé is looking for you. I'd advise you don't leave her hanging for too long", he smirked, eyeing the man up and down.
Yeonjun scoffed.
"You're unbelievable"
Beomgyu's smirk only grew as he watched his old friends annoyance grow.
"Well go on then, she's waiting"
Yeonjun hastily muttered out a goodbye to you before pushing past Beomgyu and heading back into the venue.
Beomgyu's expression soften as he glared at your drenched state. Frowning, he put up the umbrella he was holding in his hand and walked over to your side so he could cover you. With his free hand, he placed it upon your cheek.
"How could he let you get into this state", he said softly. "It'll be a miracle if you don't get sick Y/n"
"It was my choice Beomgyu"
"But if he really cared for your well-being he would have made you go inside"
"Beomgyu...", you removed his hand from your face and stepped back slightly to increase the space between you two. "Why is it always a competition between you, I'm not some prize on a shelf to be won"
"I know that but-"
"And Yeonjun doesn't even like me, so stop trying to compete with him when I only like you!"
As soon as the word escaped your mouth, you gasped and covered your mouth with your hands. You could barely believe what you had just done.
"You actually admitted it, you do like me", he muttered in awe. "So, why will you be my girlfriend?"
You went silent. This was something you had waited years to hear and now, now you didn't know what to say. Yes, you really really liked him, but something was holding you back. Something... or someone.
"Y/n, please say yes. I promise you treat you well and love you like you deserve", Beomgyu spoke as he got closer to you. "And remember, I'm all you have left"
There was something about the way he said that last phrase that made shivers run down your spine. But given the condition you were in, you decided to blame it on how cold you were, when that clearly was not the reason for it.
"So?"
"Of course I'll be your girlfriend Beomgyu"
