You were upset. No, you were more than just upset, you were furious. How could your best friend be so selfish. Sure, you could understand her actions had you purposely went and fell in love with Yeonjun just to spite her, but you had no idea she even liked the guy. Perhaps that's what confused you the most about the whole situation. Yoona never once spoke to you about any of this.
However, that was about to be changed.
Never in your life had you let yourself into Yoona's home without an invitation. But now, the need to obtain the formality had disappeared the moment Beomgyu had told the truth; along with any inch of respect you held for her.
The front door slammed with a loud bang, shaking the family photo frames plastered against the wall. It was lucky that you were aware of Mr and Mrs Choi's work schedules, as you knew they would not approve of your actions. Especially now since one of the frames had loosened and was now falling to the ground. Only once it had smashed on the ground, did you realise the frame held a photo of Yoona and you. Ironic.
"Yoona?!", you yelled from the foot of the stairs. "We need to talk!"
"Oh y/n", you heard a small voice reply. "Thank god it's you, I thought someone was breaking in"
You remained in place, waiting for the girl to make herself known to you.
"Why did you come in with such a- rush....", her demeanour changed as soon as she saw you. "Y/n? W-what's wrong?"
"Oh wouldn't you like to know", you spat out, making your way up a few steps. "In fact, let me enlighten you Yoona, about what I know"
" Y/n I don't understand?"
"Well let me help you understand", you step again. "Beomgyu and I just had a wonderful little chat, rather eye-opening if you ask me"
"A chat? A-about what?", her eyes widened, you could practically smell the fear emanating. "Y/n I don't have time for this, I have dinner with-"
"Dinner can wait", you had reached the top of the stairs and now were glaring directly into Yoona's eyes. "Let's not talk about it here. Let's have a seat, shall we?"
~~~~~Yeonjun's POV~~~~~
"It's getting late, Yoona should have be here by now"
Yoona's mother was looking out the window, nervously clutching with the pearl necklace that adorned her neck.
Despite her being right, he couldn't help but feel a huge sense of relief that the girl he was betrothed to hadn't made her appearance. Perhaps she had finally saw reason and had ran away to avoid this marriage... a pipe dream.
"Maybe we should just reschedule?", my mother asked. "It's getting quite late and I'd rather not have to rush dinner"
"Give it some more time", Yeonjun's father said, his voice deep and emotionless. A statement which Yoona's parents nodded in approval to.
This was pointless. They had been loitering about in the foyer of the house for well over an hour now and Yeonjun was growing ever more tiresome.
"I need to grab some air" Yeonjun muttered. "If she ever shows up, I'll be in the garden"
Yeonjun didn't even bother to wait to hear his and Yoona's parents response. He was suffocating in that room, if he remained there any longer he guaranteed he'd crack under the pressure.
The garden was shrouded in darkness, only lit from the few stars that were peaking through the cloudy sky. The air was cool, but not cold enough to be uncomfortable and combined with crispness to the air; it was the perfect combination. Yeonjun took a deep breath and sat down on one of the many benches which occupied the land.
He had more land than a whole neighbourhood combined, so why did he always feel so trapped?
"It's a cold night Yeonjun, you'll get sick if you stay out here too long"
Yeonjun was taken aback by the sudden voice. Although it only took one glance over his shoulder to relieve all his worries. It was Ms. Lee.
Staring down at the younger boy with a soft smile, Ms. Lee wrapped a blanket over his figure before taking a seat next him.
"Thank you Ms. Lee, I'm glad I still have one person looking out for me", Yeonjun smiled. Although the smile was rather faint, it displayed his sincerity perfectly. Ms. Lee had helped to raise him and it reassured him that she was still present after all these years.
"Your parents look out for you too"
Yeonjun laughed in amusement.
"Are you sure about that? Not sure you'd call a forced marriage that"
Ms. Lee did not respond straight away. She stared out into the dark garden, taking in every shadow and outline. A small smile occupied her face.
"What happened to the Yeonjun who took pride in defiance?", she shook her head, tutting ever so slightly. "A few months ago you would have retaliated to such an arrangement. So what changed?"
Yeonjun couldn't help but think how right the older woman was. A few months ago he, alongside Soobin and Beomgyu, would have been in some dull alleyway, spray painting who knows what on some shabby wall. Heck, he'd probably have already gotten into three fights by this time. But here he was, trapped within the confinement of his parents land and forced into a marriage he doesn't even want.
He never even realised how much he had changed.
"I did.... I changed"
"True, you no longer retaliate to upset your father. But I'm sure your determination to live a life guided by own your own judgement is still there. Deep down perhaps, but still within you"
"I.. you're right", Yeonjun stood up and kneeled down in front of Ms. Lee with one swift movement. Removing the blanket she brought from his shoulders to hers.
"So tell me Ms. Lee. What should I do?"
